It's kind of creepy, bizarre and mysterious. It's a good lead in to Not Enough. I like it! Does anybody know anything about how it was recorded?

It's actually a 1983 recording that Eddie made of him destroying a piano. The piano belonged to Marvin Hamlish.

Though it's not really music at all, it leads well into Not Enough.

BTW, Axe, what is wrong with Not Enough? So many people seem to hate it, but I think it's a great song!! Who cares if it's a ballad? I have always thought that one of VH's strengths is their versatility and variety. But to each his own . . .

I actually like the song but to me, it doesn't fit the vibe of the rest of the album. For the most part, Balance is a hard rocking record (i.e. Seventh Seal, Amsterdam, Aftershock, Baluchitherium) and having this ballad in the middle ruins the flow for me. Plus I think they had at least 2 or 3 singles before they put Not Enough out as a single so I don't see the point of including it here. Filler, maybe?

I like it OK, but it sounds kind of like some silly cheerleading rant.

Not Enough, meanwhile, lets the listener gasp for air after sprinting through a string of hard rocking songs. It works well as a prelude to Aftershock, which is my favorite tune on the CD.

I cant stand 'strung out', ,it totally breaks up the pace and feel of the album, which up till then is excellent, and it never really recovers properly until the last 2 songs. No good

I really hate strung out. I like Not Enough alot, I know alot of people hate VH ballads but that song is wonderful. Lots of emotion on it. I think it could have been huge for the band but it was not marketed the right way, it got lost in the shuffle. They should have scraped Strung out and included Crossing over or one of the other songs that did not make the cd like "Out of the Ether" or maybe something left over from FUCK like "The Wish" or something like that.

I love Strung Out and how it leads into Not Enough. Kinda like Eruption/You Really Got Me. I like where they crush the pop can in SO.

I don't mind Strung Out. It leads well to Not Enough but I usually skip it.

I liked having 'Strung Out' on the Balance album. It was something totally different. Balance was an album that many different 'types' of music. From hard rocking 'Aftershock' to dark sounding 'Feelin'. The only thing I would have changed would be the instumental. I would have loved to have heard that with lyrics. It surprised me to hear that Sammy had a difficult time putting lyrics to the song. Goofing around one day, I had managed to put some lyrics to the song.
Maybe he had a mental block. Maybe Eddie was giving him shit about it. Who knows.
