    Default Eddie and John Mellencamp??

Don't know if this was posted yet, sorry if it was. From Melodicrock.com

WHAT ALMOST WAS - JOHN MELLENCAMP & EDDIE VAN HALEN:
On the promotional trail in support of his recent best of release Words and Music, John Mellencamp made an interesting comment in regard to guitarist Eddie Van Halen. It seems the two nearly joined up for an acoustic tour four years ago.
On the question of doing an acoustic tour, this was John's reply: "Actually, yeah, I have. Eddie Van Halen and I talked about it four years ago. He would play acoustic guitar and I would sing. We talked about it for three months. I went to MTV in the mid-80s, and they'll verify the story, and said, I want to do a concert in acoustic guitars. A couple years later they came up with acoustic — or unplugged. That was me (my idea)."
Another interesting response was his answer to a question about recording a country album. John's reply: "No, not really. Country sure has changed in the last 10 years. It was one thing, then it was another. Country has slowly marched toward a rock beat and rock preservation. Country artists of today. Man! That's how I used to sound in the `80s."

Yeah, and Don Dokken said that he and Eddie talked about doing stuff together when they were touring on the Monsters of Rock tour.

...and Eddie and Billy Joel had dinner together talking about Eddie producing one of his late 1980's early 1990's albums...

I think Eddie does a lot of talking, yet nothing rarely materializes. Well, nothing outside of the VH camp anyway - which isn't necessarily a bad thing either. I've been fairly satisfied with what he accomplished with his own band between 1978 and 1998.

    Eruption meets Pink Houses.

I would have loved to have seen this two together live. Would have showed the acoustic guitar side of Eddie that doesn't come out too often.

"Words and Music" is one of the best 'best of' collections out there.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

This is the kind of thing I wish Eddie would do more of. I think he and Mellencamp could do some interesting stuff. Mellencamp is a great songwriter. I've always felt Edward should do more work outside VH. I think the world has really only heard a small amount of what he is capable of. I've often wondered if the reason none of this stuff materializes is because WB's has him by the balls. I wonder just how much artistic freedom he really has. Just curious. Either way, Edward and Mellencamp would be interesting. Maybe John could provide the deep insightful lyrics the most recent "Van Hagar" material sorely lacked.

I though Jon Bon Jovi credits Bon Jovi for originating the whole "Unplugged " thing? Mind you he credits alot of things to Bon Jovi...I wonder if he is related to Joe Elliot?

Wow that would've been an interesting show. I'd like to see Edward do some acoustic stuff too, the guy is so creative. Sure wish it could've happened........................

Somewhere I read that Tesla's "Five Man Acoustical Jam" came before the Unplugged series and was a spur to get it started?? I'm not sure how true this is, but I'm positive I read that recently.

that would have sucked....eddie fucked up "josephina" every time he played it on the '98 tour cause he plays an acoustic guitar like it's an electric....too busy noodling and he doesn't hold down a strong enough strumming pattern for it to sound good...a guy like jerry cantrell knows to approach the two instruments differently.
