Default open letter to Ed re: New Jersey 6/22/04

Dear Ed, saw your show and its good to see that your looking healthy, when the band came out and i heard HELLOWWWWW BABYfrom Sammy, it was electricfiying! But then you almost fell down.then i started to listen to your playing and was puzzled as to what was wrong with you. Now i have seen every VanHalen tour since 1979, bought every record and think your the most talented guitarist of all time.In your 6 year off period ive always said that you do not owe anyone a interview or explanation for anything youve done, but what you do owe me is that you give me 100% effort for the price of my ticket and you did not give me that. Sammy, Mike and AL carried you that night.Look at some tape of the Toronto Balance PPV tour and see how flawless and effortless you played that night,. I think you were sober back then. I hope you get your shit together, not for the fans but for your son, i can see that you love him very much. Good luck, and get back to work and make some more music,

I was at that show, and I thought he and the rest of the band sounded great. I saw them in 93' and 95' and this show last June was the best I've seen. I was sober too, I might add. I was under no dilusions

Yeah, no kidding. I love EVH, I saw the reunion tour from the 2nd row, I've heard boots of other shows off of the 04' tour. Clearly Ed's playing was not up to par with his PAST performances. Just my opinion

I hate to say this but............GULP.........if VH were to tour with AC/DC next year. EVH better improve his playing or Angus is going to kick his ass all over the stage.

That may be so , you're right , but when you only play 3 chords , it makes things a little easier !

Having actually seen AC/DC a few times fairly recently (last couple of tours). Angus has lost more technique then Ed has at this point. Drunk or sober it seems Eddie is attempting to once again change his approach to playing guitar (he's obviously much more successful on nights when he's not completely intoxicated!), he has always done that.

VH1 Ed was completely different then VH2 Ed

WACF Ed was completely different then VH2 Ed and Fair Warning Ed

Fair Warning Ed was completely different then Diver Down Ed

Diver Down Ed was completely different then 1984 Ed (playing was kinda the same I guess, but the song's were so much freak'n better!)

1984 Ed was completely different then 5150 Ed

0U812 Ed was in a strange place

FUCK Ed was in a rock'n place, as was the entire band

Balance Ed was sharp and focused, but not nearly as exciting as past drunk Ed

VHIII Ed was actually pretty cool to me, I like his playing on the album, just wish he had some good song's to showcase it!

2004 Ed sound's pretty bad ass on Up For Breakfast at least, to bad Sammy couldn't contribute better lyrics (just my opinion, I actually love Sammy).

Besides, tell 2004 Ed he sucked in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Toronto and he'll probably kick your ass!

Im sure he had other great nights, but these are the only ones I can personally attest to.

Ed did play AWESOME in Toronto. I think he played his best solo of the tour that night. He pretty much played Cathedral flawlessly

I was FIVE star in Jersey. He was GREAT. So what he had some wine, so did most of the audience. In 1995 he was mostly sober...fighting the urge to drink, now he's given in and just warming up again. I have at least 5 or 6 dvds of the tour and he is incredible on them.

What do you guys want, a fuckin' robot? He's HUMAN. And he's still The King.

Can't wait til the next tour.

No, professionalism would be a good start. I paid for a service, I believe I got jobbed by the performance.

Try your thinking with say...a dentist: Well, my teeth are semi-repaired, but I still believe he's a brilliant dentist.

Because I bought and paid for it, I'm allowed to bitch. As said before, the band carried him...he was not the driver, he was the loose nut behind the wheel.

And to be fair, I'm certain we could attend the same showing of a movie, and come out with opposing views.

Fact: You saw what you saw, I saw what I saw.

    Hmmm...

A man is a critic when he cannot be an artist, in the same way that a man becomes an informer when he cannot be a soldier.
    -- Gustave Flaubert

Having the critics praise you is like having the hangman say you've got a pretty neck.
    -- Eli Wallach

Pay no attention to what the critics say; there has never been set up a statue in honor of a critic.
