Default The Bands that Opened for VAN HALEN

I'm wondering what all the bands are that opened for VH. When I saw them they were solo, but so far, I know of three bands:

    Jonas
    Rose Hill Drive
    Shinedown

are there anymore more that people saw or know about? Also I'm wondering which of these bands you like best and why?? I still want to check out some shinedown songs and hopefully hear of some other bands before I pick the best band.

BTO opened for VH in Ft. Worth Tx back in 86'

Collective Soul I believe on the F.U.C.K. tour in Dallas. (I think)

Lots more I'm sure..........Alcohol just prevents the memory of most of their opening acts.

I saw Rose Hill Drive, they've got an independent cd that i should listen to, but i haven't looked to hard for it. They played a very entertaining set.
Back in 1984, VH had a huge stage set up, but it was all curtained off, some little three piece rock-a-billy band came out, they were forced to use their own little amplifiers on the stage (which they were allowed about 10 x10 ft. to use.) They were booed and pelted with whatever was handy about three songs into the set.
I never could figure out if these guys were actually hired to open up (if so,they were the dumbest people in town) or if this was a joke VH played on the fans to start the night.
It was either very funny or very sad......actually it was pretty funny either way.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

I wouldn't know about the Dave era, but for Sammy, I've seen:

Blue Oyster Cult on the 5150 tour
OU812 was Monsters of Rock, so there were a few there
Alice in Chains was F.U.C.K., I think
Vince Neil opened on that tour too, or maybe Balance
Our Lady Peace was Balance or Right Here, Right Now
Creed opened for them on the III tour
Then the various bands this time around, like Shinedown and Silvertide.

I may have the wrong tour, but I know all those people opened for VH.

It was Private Life. I think Ed was producing them, which is why they got to open.

Also, I know for a fact that AIC opened for them on the FUCK tour. I read somewhere Jerry Cantrell almost died on stage from doing some kind of thing where he jumped from the rafters.

The 2 bands that opened for them that I saw were Silvertide and Laidlaw. Silvertide needed a little more bass to even it out IMO. When they left, my ears were ringing! I'd say Laidlaw was the best. They kinda reminded me of Skynyrd, but I don't remember that much about them, I wasn't paying attention to them, I was lookin at the people in the front row with hats that had chickens on em and someone who had a red 'fro and thought "Damn, those guys are wasted!"
So you broke down, trying to leave town, I broke down crying on your return. You left me feeling hopeful, I'll never see your face again. You made for a bad lover's liver. You stole all the covers and busted my head. You made me such an asshole, I wish we'd never met. I'm tired of being bored. I'm through with the headaches. Shari, was it cool seeing Blue Oyster Cult open for Halen? I love BOC, that would've been sweet.
    "Suck a fat one, faggot."
-MikeL, showing off that sharp wit of his.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

-Derrick Jensen, "What We Leave Behind"

"You know what's weird to me is Christians who are against the death penalty. After all, if it weren't for the death penalty, we wouldn't celebrate Easter!"

Well, I was only 15 at the time, so the only song I knew by them was Mississippi Queen. Too young to be impressed by them, I suppose.

You know, I just looked them up and there are a TON of songs I know by BOC, but I have no memory of hearning them at that concert. Hmmm... I wonder if we showed up late and missed most of their show. That is quite probable!

The Velcros were the 3 piece rockabilly band from '84
    Red Rider from Diver Down
Rail from Fair Warning (?)possibly it was WACF. The brown M&M tour I know for sure.
    BTO '86
Kindom Come, Dokken, Metallica, Scorps from MOnters of Rock '88
    Alice In Chains-FUCK
    Brother Cane-Balance
Don't recall the rest. I have seen more shows, but these are the bands that I remember at this point.

I watched a show on "E" about rock star kids. Randy Bachman (BTO) talked about how excited his son Tal was to meet Eddie Van Halen when they opened for them.

I saw Van Halen 3 times with DLR ('79, '80, '81) and don't remember who opened for them. I just remember Jonas as the opener in November '04.

When I first read this thread, I thought the original poster was looking for the bands that opened for them on the "Best Of Both Worlds" tour. But since it's expanded, I'll mention that when I saw them in 1981, The Fools, from Boston, Massachusetts opened for them.

Hey VH Chick, I think you might be confused, Mississippi Queen is not a BOC song.
Godzilla, Don't Fear the Reaper, Burnin' For You etc.
Mississippi Queen i think was by a band called Mountain.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
