if u want a floyd buy a guitar with one already on, it wouldn't be worth putting one on a non floyd guitar. Pickups are an easy change, not sure it matters that it's a squier, i had one and it genuinly sounded great with the stock pu's, guys at the guitar shop will do that if ur not confident tho. Keep us updated!

    Default weird!

I was thinking about doing the exact same thing except i would buy the mexican made standard strat HSS and redo it myself. I curently play a strat made from parts from AllParts. As far as floyd roses go...i will never use one again. If i rebuild a strat i will pute a gotoh/wilkinson bar on it and replace the nut with a lsr roller nut and use fender bullet strings. This setup will stay in tune decently and wont be such a bitch to change strings. It will also sound better. I am always amazed how people love floyds when in truth they are archaic clunky outdated crap.Steve vai said in an interview that floyd rose bridges ruin the ability to get resonant tone out of body woods and that when using them you get more tone from the neck wood than body.Thats why he used basewood on his jem77's becase basewood will resonate a bit with a floyd and smoothe out the sound.Alder is light enough too.I also love the necks on fenders...even the cheap ones, theyr fat and the 9 1/2" radius i can haul ass on. Re-building a cheap strat is the way to go....rip the guts out, slap in a Duncan JB HB and there ya go. I would use the stock bridge until you can get a Gotoh/wilkinson bar and Lsr nut and put it together yourself.

If i were you i'd try and avoid a floating floyd rose. the last one on my ibanez brought me to tears . You either love em' or hate em'. I love the wolfgang and the axis/evh cause the floyd's are non floating.

You'd have to do alot of work to convert a vintage trem to a floating Floyd. Unless you want to do some routing on your body (not recommended IMO), the conversion from vintage style to Floyd will be non-floating.

Just buy an older Kramer Baretta or Pacer off Ebay and put a Duncan JB in it with a paint job and you'll be set.

Yeah but i lost the will to live so many times trying to sort the one out on my ibanez ergoydyne in the end i lost faith. i bought a prestige with one of the newer ones and it wasn't as bad changing strings once it was balanced. sticking it in a different tuning was a world of pain.

Note to self : Never under any circumstances ever buy another Ibanez, you don't like thier necks or their stock pu's. you've had 3 and they haven't liked any of them. stick to Musicman.

In a "players" percpective ... floating bridges are "okay" just as long as you don't break a string. If that should happen on a gig, you better have another guitar on stand-by or you're screwed. I would also think that the additional routing of the body would somehow effect the tone of the guitar. Besides, I just don't think the additional routing looks very attractive.

I guess it all comes down to preference. I personally don't care for them.

For those who own them ... what are the advantages?

You can bend the strings up and they are a little more responsive, thats it i think...... i'd sooner have a blocked off trem, soooo much nicer, reliable and easier to use imo, then again some people love them.

Thus increasing your chances for broken strings.
    Hardley worth it IMO.
