    Default Can someone explain this?

I've read many posts that basically say that VH's music is more "mature" with Sam in the band. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but to me it's seems like "they" (fellow posters, reviewer, etc...) are putting the music down that VH made with Dave. Can someone please explain to me what they think "mature" music means? If VH with Sam is "mature" then what is VH with Dave?
I can't remember which comedian said it, about the current state of Van Halen, but he said right now, Van Halen is like a really hot playboy playmate with a prosthetic leg.

I assume they mean that Sam appealed to a more mature audience. The songs weren't always about partying or sex or whatever else was on Dave's mind the day he wrote any lyrics. The music itself wasn't always the most mature but when Sam joined the band either. But many, if not all, of their singles appealed more widely to a broader audience. More "chicks" started listening and they played the music on different formatted stations (ie: easy listening).

Another way of looking at it is that the band was more mature, meaning more experienced. They become much more professional when Sam joined up (not saying it was 'Journey-like').

VH with Dave is a party rock-on on-a-highway kickass vintage rock band.
What is more mature? Right Now, DDMWLCD and Feeling, tune which would never appear during Dave era.

I'm going to assume that they mean the band is more mature, rather than the music. There's plenty of Dave era songs that are "mature" if you're talking about the music. Just listen to Fair Warning....I just wasn't sure if they meant that the music was better by saying it was mature....

If they've ment a band growing up and focusing more on politics in their lyrics and such sorta stuff, I'd relate to Dave's quote about bands, messages and Western Union .

I don't care about how a band/artist act in public as long as I like their music. For me, Sammy years are more serious and mature songs-wise, that doesn't mean that Van Hagar was any better than CVH. And I agree on Fair Warning, but in a vast VH community it's the least popular album from the 6 pack (I don't mean fans on message boards)

Oh, some people here probably do mean "better". We're locked in an eternal battle here between the forces of Dave and the forces of Sammy. The battle is ongoing, often heated, and terribly BORING. Fortunately, a lot of people have moved beyond that stage, and have better things to post.

By the way, Sammy is better. No, Dave. Nope, Sammy. No way, DAVE! Hell no, SAMMY!... etc., etc., etc.....

I don't know what anyone means anymore. I'm going to the arcade.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Sam's era more mature....evident by songs such as Good Enough, Summer Nights, Finish What Ya Started, Spanked...
The only "mature" VH album or era may be in the "3"
One noticeable difference between Judas Priest and Metallica...
...Judas Priest only has one gay guy in the band.

Actually I was trying to point out the non-mature songs of the Sammy era. Having said that, Secrets is a great song.

    Default Hmpm...

Is "3" most mature record? I think it is at least without "One I Want".
