Default Sammy era cd's to be remastered???

Anybody know? The bass/ low end is so poor on those cd's. Really needs to be done.

It would have been a smart move on VH's part if they remastered them sometime during the last tour or shortly after. Maybe they were busy enough with the new songs and tour. Hopefully they'll find the time to release them. I know the songs on BOBW sound much better than the regular album versions.

That what I thought, they should have done it when they released LWAN on DVD.

The remasters of the Hagar era albums have been rumored for a long time now. Hopefully they really will happen. And if they do, perhaps "Crossing Over" (Japanese bonus track) will be on a reissue of Balance? Even though Balance doesn't need to be remastered at all. Hopefully they wouldn't change the sound (it's still new enough and remastering might make it sound worse, not better) but just add the bonus track and re-release it.

I don't see why any CD's other than 5150 and OU812 need remastering.

FUCK was the first VH album that didn't have a crapload of treble and no bass. It sounds fine.
Getting rid of Donn Landee seemed to do the trick in that aspect.

When FUCK came out, Mikey even said that Donn was always a bit bass-shy.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Yeah, I agree that For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge doesn't really need a sound upgrade either. So I guess if they just remaster 5150 and OU812 and reissue Balance with "Crossing Over" we should be golden.

I'd sure love to get my hands on remastered versions of 5150, OU812, & F.U.C.K. though...

5150: It sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel.
    OU812: No bass.
FUCK: No dynamic range. It all sounds recorded at the same level.
Balance: The best sounding album of their entire career. Don't change a thing production-wise, but slap "Crossing Over" on there.

Balance: The best sounding album of their entire career. Don't change a thing production-wise, but slap "Crossing Over" on there.
5150: Blame Ed's guitar tone, the production on Sammy's voice, and Al's electronic drums. Better mastering won't do much for it.
OU812: Just a poorly mastered album. A little less processed than 5150 but still a little bit too "glossy" -- but NOT in a good way. Better mastering could help but, like 5150, it'll only ever sound "okay" or "reasonable" at best.
F.U.C.K.: A little bass-heavy. The drums sound TOO big. Too much reverb on them. Ed's guitar sounds better than on the first two Hagar era albums, but it's still way more processed than the "classic" brown sound.
Balance: If you think F.U.C.K. has no dynamic range, take a good listen to Balance. Examine the waveforms. I'm pretty confident you'll find it has been maximised quite a bit. It's a decent sounding recording, but it doesn't have room to breathe. It's a wall of sound. Not as bad as BOBW, and probably about the same as the DLR era remasters. It's well produced and engineered, but the mastering shouldn't have been so hot. If you're used to well-mastered recordings -- or at least prefer them -- then Balance will probably leave your ears fatigued by the end.

    IMO, of course!

Its all subjective. I've listened to all these albums hundreds of times. We all have. But about FUCK, I think what I don't like about it is the guitar layering. There are so many "fills" in the background, its ridiculous. It sounds like there are 3 or 4 guitar players on some of those songs playing simultaneously. Poundcake sounds like Eddie is using a 12 string. That's what makes it have no depth to it, to me anyway. I actually like listening to the live versions of the songs from FUCK on the Right Here, Right Now album more. Yes, I know, I bet those are pretty doctored too. It just seems like there is more space between the instuments because of no overdubbing.

Balance on the other hand is, again to me, a sonic marvel. Easily the best sounding VH album. It sounds so clear and full. The highest high notes and lowest low notes can all be heard. Sounds great in a car, too.

I don't know anything about waveforms, just what my ears are telling me.

    My two cents.

I'm pretty sure he did, so it would sound more full. In addition to the main guitar.
