Default How Ya Doin' - The Joe Walsh thread

Who here likes them a little Joe Walsh from time to time? I don't have a lot of stuff, but I have the Anthology (Look What I Did!) and it's pretty solidly packed with good stuff, plus I have a few random albums, including a damn fine album in But Seriously Folks.... Got one of the greatest songs about the rock 'n roll lifestyle of all time on there in "Life's Been Good" and the rest of it is pretty solid, too. But lots of good tunes through the years - "Funk #49" & "Walk Away" (with the James Gang), "Turn To Stone", "Rocky Mountain Way", "Help Me Thru The Night", "All Night Long", "A Life Of Illusion", "I Can Play That Rock & Roll", "I.L.B.T.'s", "Ordinary Average Guy" among my favourites, not to mention "In The City" & "Pretty Maids All In A Row" with the Eagles. I remember way back when I used to listen to Howard Stern (before he became overly obsessed with lesbians and spanking) and he'd call Joe and it always sounded like Joe was coming off a bender (which he possibly was) or when Joe appeared on "The Drew Carey Show". Just a great talent and an all around fun guy - got to see him open for Foreigner a long time ago and also as a member of the Eagles in 1994. Vote for Joe!

The James Gang "Live In Concert" from Carnegie Hall is the live record (good luck finding it... ) of all time. It features a 20 minute version of the Yardbirds' "Lost Woman", along with terrific run throughs of "Walk Away", "Tend My Garden" and "Ashes, the Rain and I".

This is the period of time that Pete Townsend referred to Joe as "America's Best Living Guitarist", and it smokes from end to end.

Walsh also produced Dan Fogelbird's "Souvenirs" record ("There's A Place In The World For A Gambler", one of the prettiest songs ever recorded).

Saw Joe open for B.O.C. couple years ago at the Orlando Hard Rock, and to this day it was one of the best shows I've ever witnessed.

I hope the new "Warriors" remake will feature "In The City", like the original...and I wish I still had that "Drew Carey" episode on tape, man even Joey Ramone made an appearance!

How can you dislike a guy that writes a song called "I Like Big Tits" (about his wife when she was pregnant)?

For the folk that can't afford the "Anthology", "Little Did He Know" (Joe Walsh's Greatest Hits) on MCA, is a good place to start.

    And "The Bomber" rules!

That song is also on the FM soundtrack - did not know Walsh produced it. Great song - probably one of the greatest soundtracks ever (also has the aforementioned "Life's Been Good" as well as "Life In The Fastlane" by the Eagles)

Did not know the story of "I.L.B.T.'s" - can't even imagine a "Mrs. Walsh"!

Yup. the "FM" soundtrack was pretty much the soundtrack to my senior year in high school ('79)...funny, I honestly can not remember the movie!

Steely Dan did the title track, and I think Jimmy Buffet was on there as well.

That one, "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" (my generation, to the letter, shit...we invented slacking and "waking and baking" ) and "Heavy Metal" rate up there as well.

And "Mrs." Walsh must be one truly forgiving person.

Saw Joe live at a Ampitheater at Harvey's Lake ,Pa. He was ill but came out, drank Hot tea and put on a great show, My wife actually wanted to go after she saw him and Little Richard on the Drew Carey show play "Rocky Mountain Way". Also when we saw the Eagles I thought the best part of the show was when J Walsh played "Funk 49". It rocked. I even got a "How Ya doin" sticker on my guitar case. Joe's the Man.

I can remember Joe as a guest host at KISW-Seattle in the 80's. He was there for a week. It was some of the funniest shit I've ever heard. I did prank phone calls, played his guitar, and related alot of fabulous stories.
    I dig "The Confessor"
