Default Who's your favorite sports figure growin up??

I remember back when I was younger, my favorite sports figure (and will always be) Nolan Ryan. When I used to play ball, I always tried to imitate him on the mound, everything from his exact pitching delivery to that grunt he would give when he fired that heater to the plate. I remember going to bed at night and hoping the next morning somehow I would able to throw as hard as him.

It was so awesome getting to see him on TV get his 6th and 7th no-no, his 5,000 strikeout and his 300th win during a time when I was playing little league ball. Only thing I regret is that I never got the chance to see him play live

Who was your most influential/favorite player growing up??

good question i had the pleasure of seeing michael jordan and dan marino play their whole career. i saw mike from the time he was at unc before he become nba super star jordan . and i knew tht he was going to be huge. i just wished i bought nike stock back then.lol and living in fla i got the chance to see air marino from begininng to end and had season tixs for a good portion of danny's career. so i guess i would have to lean toward marino and i cant wait til canton ..................

When I was a kid it was Jose Canseco, as funny as that may sound. But for the past 10 years or so its been Mariano Rivera.

    Thats a tough question.
I was always a very big Darren Daulton fan. But Mike Schmidt has to be it for me.

    Michael Jordan and Frank Thomas
CHICAGO WHITE SOX - 2005 WORLD CHAMPIONS

The Chicago White Sox (1901-present) - The Original SOX - Proof

    The Boston Americans (1901)
    The Boston Somersets (1902)
    The Boston Pilgrims (1903-1906)
The Boston Red Sox (1907-present) - Proof

The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.

The SOX are in Chicago...we just allow the Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets to use the name.

Reggie Jackson was the shit for me. Was told stories about him from my dad and starting following him since I was 8 or 9. Roger Staubach, Drew Pearson and Nolan were others. Saw Nolan pitch a half a dozen times I guess. Watched Reggie play at least five or six times. Good idea for a thread. Out.

as a 19 year old i feel fortunate that i was able to see nolan ryan pitch ....though mainly just so i can say i saw him cause i really dont remember it, but it was at my first baseball game. Rangers vs. Tigers at Tiger Stadium in 1992

i guess for me my favorite player was Mo Vaughn until he left the sox....then it was Nomar....and Pedro.....those guys were just amazing to watch and even though they're both on other teams now I still can't help but root for them. even after all the crap Pedro has said about the sox since he left.....its probably easier for me to let that all slide because they won it all. But Pedro was one of a kind for sure. and I'm going to see the Cubs vs. Astros this year just to see Nomar play.

Thomas was runner up in 01 in what shouldve been his 3rd MVP.....and who's gonna deny a 3 time MVP from the Hall of Fame? as it is he'll have to finish strong. Hopefully he does
