Default Ed IS a guitar GOD, and I'll tell ya why...

Recently heard an interview(forget the guy's name) in which he bashes Eddie for considering himself "godlike", and shouldnt even be considered on the same level as Jimi Hendrix. On the contrary, there are only 2 guitar GODS in the history of music, Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen.

When Jimi came on the scene in the late sixties, he had guys that were considered to be guitar legends already going "What the hell is that???". Immediately Jimi became one of the most copied and sought after guitarists on the planet. There was no one ON THE PLANET that could play or sound like Jimi. Regardless of how Jimi acted in public, many people can confirm that Jimi did in fact consider himself the best in the industry and had a big ego. He knew that he was light years ahead of anyone else.

When Edward came on the scene in the late 70's, much of the same things that happened with Jimi happened with Ed. There were people out there listening to his music going, "What the hell is that???", which immediately sparked a new revolution in the music industry. He too, then became one of the most copied and sought after guitarists on the planet. Edward, himself, has a big head and also knows that he is light years ahead of anyone in the game.

Ed and Jimi are guitar "GODS" and are allowed to have huge egos for one simple reason. They are the only two guitarists in history to single-handedly revolutionize the way that the guitar is played. All the haters simply know that there is no way they can ever be like him, play like him, or sound like him.
So in closing I'd just like to say, leave Ed alone when it comes to his arrogance. He is a GOD, not the GOD, but a god. And to anyone who doesnt think so, I ask this question: What have you done lately???
WHOAOH! Hey you! Who said that? Baby how you been?

    I don't like Jimi Hendrix.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

I wouldn't say there are only two men who have changed the face of guitar playing. There are several others whose contributions deserve note. But sure, EVH and Hendrix are among them.

My 2nd favorite guitarist is Jeff Beck. But I'm not sure he's god-like.

    Maybe Eddie copied Jimi...
You know the best tone I ever had was with that little bandmaster cranked to 10. Edward Van Halen, 1980, Guitar Player Magazine.

Fair statement, although there are others who have made contributions, NONE of them to the extent that Ed has.

Like whom? Page? Clapton? May? Vai? Malmsteen? Slash? Satch? Michael Angelo Batio ?
Neither of them has revolutionized guitar the way like Eddie did.

Er, hello, you half wits in the peanut gallery, in no way was I slacking Ed's contribution to the music world. You're talking to the king of EVH apologists here.

And junior, none of those folks you mentioned, with the exceptions of Page and Clapton, are even in the same league as Edwardo. By the same token, thinking that Clapton and Page don't deserve a similar level of respect is idiotic.

I'll agree with "similar" level. Clapton and Page are two of the best out there, but they are not revolutionairies. They are just really really great guitar players...

Nah, don't be so gullible . I think Clapton deserves even more respect that Ed, he still doesn't come close to him in my book.

Well which is it? Your last post says: "Neither of them (I'm guessing you are referring to Clapton and Page????) has revolutionized guitar the way like Eddie did."

But now you say that Ed doesn't come close to Clapton?

Some things are universal. The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix fall into that category. If you don't like those two examples it is only because you haven't delved deeper than "Hey Jude" or "Hey Joe".
