Default Just watched a boot of 04

in St Louis, I was in Chicago and I have to say, all this riff raff about Ed drinking, I don't buy it. The guy may have fallen off the wagon a few times, but trust me they are back with a vengance. Seeing Ed with wolfie proved it to me that he ain't throwing his life away. When those two jammed he had feeling in his heart that came through is fingers. Un fricken believable. God I love this band!

Sorry, just had to share some love.

    I was at Chicago, too.

Some nights he drank wine on stage, other nights he drank Gatorade or whatever. He probably wasn't drunk all the time, but he has indeed fallen off the wagon, and not just a few times. Not the best thing for an alcoholic to do, but he will get things straightened out if he wants to and can.

Well I live just across the Irish Sea, and some people have been VERY nice to me since I started to think about collecting VH bootlegs. So pop me an e-mail, I'll help to sort you out.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seem's EVH's problem with the bottle got worse as the tour progressed. I saw two shows of the 2004 Tour with the 5 Star package; the first in July (Louisville, KY), and the second in November (Fort Wayne, IN). The show in July was impressive; in fact, I could have left after soundcheck and felt VERY satisfied. When Ed was just warming up, getting levels through the monitors, he was the phenomenal Eddie of old; very fluid, great dexterity, incredible tone. He was cracking jokes with the 5 Stars, seemed to be having a blast, and seemed sober (speech not slurred, very quick wit, very light on his feet).

Fast forward 4 months to the Fort Wayne show. TOTALLY DIFFERENT ED. He was hammered during soundcheck, slurring into the mic that he was pissed he couldn't keep his "motherf***ing guitar" in tune. His playing was, well, rough. Timing was off, legato runs just weren't there; it was just not his night.

Don't get me wrong; Ed on his absolute worst day will still kick my ass on the 6-string, but it was shame seeing him play this way knowing he's capable of so much more, on a more consistent basis.

We all have our demons, and I'm no exception. I've sought help for mine, and sincerely hope he does the same for his.

I agree with bmk, the guy was owning in the beginning of the tour when I saw them. It was the second Jersey night, and Sammy commented "It's kinda crazy on the second night cuz we had a great gig last night, how are we gonna outdo it? Well, we had a couple extra cocktails before and we are going for it!"

Then right before he played Eagles Fly, he apologized, saying "I was trying to speak for the whole band, but it was really only Mikey and I." Then he looked over at Eddie and said "Hey, I cleared it up!" And Eddie thanked him.

In reality though, all I know is that I saw Ed. Ed kicked as. Ed had a great time. I had a great time. What happened afterwards is obviously a huge cloud of doubt, and I have no control over Eddie so I'm gonna let him take care of himself.

Compared to seeing him between 1986 - 1998, his playing IS suffering. I buy that he's fucked up, and it translates into what he does for a living.

You can download them to your computer and watch them and if you have a DVD burner you can burn them to a DVD and watch them on a compatable DVD player.

go to www.jamtothis.com and go to Video Bit Torrent Downloads and they have 2004 boots there I think.

I don't think it's ragging on him as much as most people here care about him. I respect what he des with his life and I'm not going to dictate how he should run his life. But Near the end of the tour he was "fucked up". He was still playing well, but after seing a show at the beginning of the tour and 1 right near the end I could tell that it was 2 different worlds. Nobody is saying that he isn't a great player. I defend the fact that he is experimenting now because he is tired of the same old shit.

But I also feel that many fans are in denial in saying that Ed is fine and he was playing great at the end. I saw him in Hamilton on November 10 his playing was no where near what it was on July 3rd when I saw him in Toronto. He was just having a little too much fun near the end. And great for him, but I just think that we are not ragging on him as much as we are concerned for his well being and the future of VH.
    Thats my opinion.
