Default Van Halen vs Motley Crue

I want to pose this question for you guys. Motley Crue is currently on their reunion tour which I saw last month (awesome show). Van Halen has sold over 50 million records compared to Motley Crues 25 or so according to soundscan. Yet, Motley Crue is selling out just about every show they play, they are also playing Europe and I think Australia as well. Anyonen have an answer to this. Is it because the Crue have treated their fans better?

Same Venues and more shows, bottom line, the Crue is outselling Van Halen and I want to know why this is happening. I will post the ticket sales when I find them.

    cant compare the two

one is a fun rock band

the other is a fun rock band with the greatest guitarist ever that makes not only fun wild music but deep meaningful songs and the guitarist is a modern jimi hendrix innovating tons of stuff for years.

    Kick start my heart.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

    Everyone's missing the point.

The Crue is selling out shows. VH didn't. I know in Milwaukee, the Crue sold out FAST! They played at the Cellular 1 Arena, VH played at the Bradley center. Similar in size--the cell is a little smaller. But VH didn't even come CLOSE to selling out the Bradley center.

The Crue is coming back to Mke again! VH is in hibernation.

I've been trying to figure this out, too. I mean, I like both bands, but VH is in a different league in my opinion, too. However, ticket sales are saying the opposite...

Maybe Dave with VH would sell better? (Don't start bashing...not intended to cause an argument!)

Maybe VH woulda sold better if they had a whole album (well, the Crue didn't either...so...)? Or freaking advertised more...or did public appearances? Or didn't charge $450 for vip packages...

I guess this is the first time in musical history that Musical Supremacy hasen't yielded more in ticket sales.

How about Buddy Guy playing a small club.

How about Steve Winwood playing a 200 seater.

How about Roger Clyne, one of the great songwriters of all time, playing to 78 people in Baltimore a year ago.

It doesn't suprise me that people have bad tastes in music.

    Ever heard of Menudo?
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

I'm sure Ashlee Simpson is selling out. Dosen't mean much, does it?

Ashlee Simpson is irrelevant. Motley Crue and Van Halen are both rock bands, both are doing reunion tours, Van Halen has sold more albums and is better musically by far than the Crue, but are being out sold.

I see what you're saying. I saw VH in Cleveland the last time around. They had a bunch of the upper tier sections curtained off, whereas Motley in the same venue, although not a sellout, didn't. Still sold more tix than VH. For Motley, there were definetly people in the sections that VH had blocked off. There were maybe about eight sections that were curtained off. Musically
    though it doesn't even compare.
Not that it's a big surprise to anyone, (get ready to slam me), but people want to see the real reunion. Not the reunion with the guy that replaced one of the original members. That's not the real reunion. Hate me if you want but VH would have sold out with Dave fronting. I've said it before I'll say it again, VH is boring without Dave. This is my opinion. Feel free to bash me : )
I can't remember which comedian said it, about the current state of Van Halen, but he said right now, Van Halen is like a really hot playboy playmate with a prosthetic leg.

    BRING BACK THE CLASSIC LINEUP!

I can't even have an opinion on ANYTHING anymore unless it's exactly what everyone else thinks...oh and if I do it means I HATE this album, and hope it fails. Man some of you can fuck off...seriously. - BRETT

"You make music for people. Otherwise, just play in your closet. And how do you reach the most people? By giving them the band that they know. To do it any other way would be selfish.” - EVH, June 19, 2015 Billboard Magazine

"That's a load of crap. The fans know Michael Anthony." - Me, regarding the above quote from EVH, June 19, 2015
