Does anyone have this in digital format?

Does this particular magazine discuss the break up?

The break-up with Sam hadn't happened yet.

Well, does anyone have the article?! I really wanna read it!
So you broke down, trying to leave town, I broke down crying on your return. You left me feeling hopeful, I'll never see your face again. You made for a bad lover's liver. You stole all the covers and busted my head. You made me such an asshole, I wish we'd never met. I'm tired of being bored. I'm through with the headaches. Hiding my hands that tremble like earthquakes. Under the table, under the daytime sky, Good Fucking Bye- Good Fucking Bye, Alkaline Trio

I have that issue. I bought it when it hit the news stands. Its basically a retrospective on Eddie. He talks about first learning the guitar, the club days, Roth and the break up, Sammy joining, his new sobriety, and all the way up to Balance.

The Interesting part to me was his explanation of his short haircut. He was stressed out because their manager, Ed Leffler, just died, and "Sammy was out on his loony fucking solo career at a time when we were supposed to be a band." He just shaved it all off himself. When I read that, I was like "Whoa, he slammed Sammy pretty hard. I thought they were buddies."

Its a pretty good interview. One of the last ones before he seemed to go off the deep end.

I understand his frustration....if you are in the band, give it 100% of your attention....
If you are in a band, then BE in the band, not half in, and half solo...
pick ONE, and do the hell out of it.

Odd...I had always heard he lost a bet with Jim Kelly, the former QB for the Buffalo Bills...

That's what he first said in Interviews, because he thougt it would be better to skip that detail. It was a very private matter to him and he didn't feel like admitting his exasperation to all those reporters that he didn't even know personnaly. So he thougt it would be easier to just say that he lost a bet and the subject was off the table. Later he confirmed that he was frustrated and that Sammy was the reason for it.

Umm, it wasn't Ray Danneils fault. Everybody in the industry told them NOT to hire the guy, and they did anyway. Ed and Al LET Ray Danniels ruin the band, therefore it is their own fault. They were forty-something year old men acting like teenagers. Sam's biography is pretty enlightening in regards to the breakup. Of course you are getting through Sam's perspective, but I believe Sam before Ed and Al.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

In a way you are right - Ed and Al can be blamed for the Danniels debacle in that respect. However Ray was family (by marriage)....and I'm sure the shithead used that angle to his advantage while weaseling his way into that band.

My favourite part of that interview is where he talks about the time when he first met Roth. Going off at the top my head, "So one Sunday afternoon while Alex and I were jamming at home, Roth knocked on our door and said that he wanted to sing for us. We gave him stuff like Grand Funk Railroad and told him to come back in a week later. So he came back in a week later and it was terrible. He couldn't sing. Finally, I put my guitar down and said 'Al, I'll be right back.' To this day that's why Roth always has a hair up his butt about Al cause he was the one who told him, 'Sorry man, it ain't working.'

He sort of slammed Sammy a bit with the "loony fucking solo career" remark but he also defends him in response to the Dave loyalists saying that he could sing anything that he threw at him and also makes what would be later a contradictive statement saying that his working relationship with Sammy is "good". Still I suppose that was said for the good of the band by hiding the growing tension between them.
Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
    Bobby: Who else?
    Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
    Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
    Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

"It's like a divorce. It's over and done with.Anyone who thinks Roth is ever going to come back is ridiculous".

    One year later...
The question is not, "Does love exist?"
But when she leaves, where she goes?
I got the feelin' she don't know either
Wait like the wind, watch where she blows
