    Default iMac copying DVD help!?!?

I bought an iMac about 2 weeks ago and cannot figure out how to copy a DVD. I can't use iDVD because it is for making your own DVD's and not copying already burned DVD's. Does anyone have any tips? I have been able to successfully copy a DVD to my hard drive, but I can't seem to get that info put back on to a DVDR and have it formatted as a "Readable" DVD in my DVD player. It basically copies the data as data and doesn't format it as a DVD. I was told the iMac can do this without any additional software but I am stuck. Any suggestions??????

It very easy to copy and burn a DVD on a Mac.

    Here you go:

Put DVD in and open Disk Utility in your utility folder.
On the left you must highlight the DVD. Then go to Images in the menu and choose New - Image from (DVD Name). Then select Image format at bottom and change it to CD/DVD Master and save it to desktop. Once its finished copying the DVD to your desktop remove DVD from drive and select the image from Disk Utility (a little lower this time with .CDR at the end) and choose Burn. Done deal.

Thank you! I will give it a shot. I was a Windows user for YEARS and now I converted to MAC, I absolutely love it but I still get stumped on some easy stuff. But I still love my iMac. I got pro tools LE the other day and that has been taking up most of my time. I'm having a great time with that. Thanks again!!

This worked and it copied my DVD, but it wont play. It treats it like a data DVD. Am I doing something wrong? I need to make a copy of a DVD Movie, and it wont read it like a movie once I have copied it. It only shows 2 folders, audio and video. The audio folder has nothing in it and the video has several files in it. I know it copied ok because it copied 4 gigs of info on to the DVDR. It just wont read it like a movie DVD. ... help!!

    Is it a commercial DVD?

Roxio's Toast is what I usually use, and Popcorn is great for people that make copies regularly.

probably need something to strip the copy protection. there's a whole forum at Videohelp about Mac video anything: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9

you're right about the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. the audio one will likely be empty but it's still gotta be there.
