Guitar One Gives High Honors to VH1 Album

In the May issue of Guitar One, listing the top 200 greatest guitar recordings of all time (40 in the classic rock category), Van Halen 1 takes fourth. VH being beat only by Guns N' Roses' "Appetite for Destruction", which took top honors, then Hendrix's "Are You Experienced?", followed by Zeppelin's "IV" album taking third.

Finally, some RECOGNITION FOR VH1. I find it odd, though, that Appetite for Destruction got the top notch, even though it's a fantastic album. Definitely top ten, but not better than VH1.

There are much better albums than GnR AFD. Especially guitar-wise

Man, I freakin' LOVE AFD, and I agree that it belongs near the top of the list. But the thing is, did Slash reinvent the instrument? Did he introduce a brand new style and a brand new sound when Guns hit the scene? While I like him and respect him as a player, the simple fact is he did NOT do this.

Meanwhile, EVH did precisely that. So if we are talkin' greatest guitar albums of all time, damn, shouldn't the album recorded by the dude who reinvented the instrument rank higher? Hell, that's just my opinion. There's simply no way Slash and his crew, who again, I truly love, should rank higher than Edward and his crew.

AFD changed the face of rock, no doubt. But Van Halen 1 changed the face of rock AND reinvented the guitar. Period. .

Sorry, but EVH is the only rock guitarist other than Jimi to reinvent the instrument. I hate to say it, but I feel Slash may be just a bit overrated...hell, people forget there was another guitar player in GNR, too.

It reminds me of these people who run around kissin' Joe Perry's ass and totally overlook the fact that Brad Whitford actually played many of his band's coolest riffs and solos.

How do people know they have good guitar skills nowadays?

Do their friends get impressed when they can play ANY sony AFD, or are they impressed when they can play Eruption note for note?

Uh.......VH1 definitely (even just for that song) is a better GUITAR album because it revolutionized the way people look at the guitar.

Slash wishes he could be on the same planet as EVH.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.
