Default Year to the Day/Bluesy Riffs

If you take time to sit down and analyze the lengthy solo in this song, you will probably realize that this is one of the most clear, passionate, and spine-tingling riffs that Ed has ever put together. I think it also emphasizes his blues background more than most songs that he does. What do you guys think?

LOL....more III accolades. Will it ever end? Man, I wish Diver got talked about half as much as III.

Seriously, though, the solo on YTTD is one of the high points of the entire record, maybe THE high point.

Just the anomaly that is III gets it the attention that it does. It stands out on a few levels.

    - The only VH album to feature neither Sam or Dave (and probably will be the only one to do so)
    - Ed was in full, undenable control of the record - probably the closest thing to an Ed solo album that we'll ever get.
    - The worst selling VH studio record, and likely the reason this band nearly faded off into the ether.
    - The album that likely was key in the VH/Warner Bros separation.

Diver Down was simply a half-collection of cover tunes. Nothing really anomalous about it.

The solo on YTTD is great, but I actually like the live version much better (from the Sydney show). Incredible.

    LOL...you forgot a few points.

    - The only VH album to feature an ex-Extreme band member

    - The only VH album where the lead guitarist sings lead on a track

    - The album that drove the final nail in the eternally debated coffin, can we survive ONE more lead singer switch-up?

    - Ed was in full control of the record...which goes to show ya, both Dave and Sam definitely had their respective perks as far as input went.

    - The only VH album to...well...nearly completely suck sweaty cow balls.

BTW, Diver may have been mostly covers and instrumentals, but as I've said a billion times before....the 4 originals on this vastly underrated LP blow doors off anything III has to offer. Plus, I beg to differ....Diver was anomalous in the sense that it has two of the most kickin' trax Dave and Ed ever created.

I think I'm becoming a closet Diver advocate.

Well, no, the first 4 tenets are fact, not my opinion.

The 5th, however, is ALL mine, yessir. Untamed truth be damned, the maracas clatter of dried rocky mountain oysters sounds better than Ballot or the Bullet.

On the topic of DD I think The Full Bug was more blusey than the Year To The Day solo...Year to the day is a great song though.

YTTD is a great song and it does have a really good solo one of VH's best.

Diver Down ROCKS! It's very underrated. Little Guitars is beyond "classic"...

I think the solo is really good especially live. I like how Eddie incorporated his concert solo (lack of a better term) in the middle of the song. One of the better tunes on the album.

I think it's an amazing solo. I do agree, the live version from Sydney sounds better. To my ears, it's a bit brighter. The CD version suffers from the same thing many of the songs on "3" did, piss poor production. I remember rushing home from my moonlighting job as a bartender at the local Elk's lodge to watch the show ( I taped it on my VCR). I thought this song was the hightlight of the show, "One I want" being a close second. Eddie ripped on the entire song, even the ending solo is amazing. I still kick myself in the ass for not checking out this tour when it hit the great NYS fair in Syracuse, NY. I wonder if Eddie will ever play with that amount of passion and control again?

Little Guitars is my fourth-favourite VH tune. With Romeo Deligh followed next. What do you say now, Dave-or-Graver ?

Diver Down was simply a half-collection of cover tunes.

i like to think of it as half original tunes that can stand up to anything they've released. And the covers are so halenized, how cant ya like it?
