    Eddie Murphy is Johnny Blaze
    Source: ComingSoon!
DreamWorks and Imagine have set Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle screenwriters Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg to write Johnny Blaze, an action comedy that will be developed as a star vehicle for Eddie Murphy. Variety says Imagine's Brian Grazer will produce.

Murphy would play the title character, an old-school rapper who retires and becomes a private eye who solves crimes within the hip-hop world.

Grazer produced Murphy starring vehicles The Nutty Professor and its sequel as well as Bowfinger, and the two worked together as producers on TV series The PJs and the in-development film The Incredible Shrinking Man.

Murphy will work for DreamWorks again voicing Shrek 3.

The Weekly Entertainment News will be on hiatus next week.

Rodriguez on Shark Boy and Lava Girl
    Source: ComingSoon!
Robert Rodriguez, who co-wrote and co-directed Sin City, tells ComingSoon.net that his seven-year-old son came up with his next film, The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D.

"It's these little kid superheroes. This little boy dreams up these characters people think don't exist and they show up one day and take him out of school to another planet and a different planet. It's a really cool movie," says Rodriguez. He added that the action-adventure stars "George Lopez, Kristen Davis, and David Arquette and new kids you've never seen before. Comes out in June."

Rodriguez also said he'd be interested in a Sin City sequel. "Yeah, I would do another Sin City. We'll see how the first one does, and if they want another one, we'll do another one."

Sin City hits theaters on Friday, April 1st.

Reynolds Says He Would be The Flash
    Source: ComingSoon!
'FilmRoach' tells us that The Amityville Horror and Blade: Trinity star Ryan Reynolds said today in Los Angeles that he will star as The Flash if the project goes ahead.

Not only did he say he would love to play Deadpool, but he confirmed that he had a meeting the previous night with David Goyer, and if Warner Bros. green lights his script, he said, "I am the Flash."

Blade: Trinity writer/director and Batman Begins writer David Goyer has committed to write, produce and direct the feature adaptation of DC Comics' The Flash.

Created by Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert, the Flash first appeared in DC Comics late in 1939. He's the alter ego of chemistry student Jason Peter "Jay" Garrick, an aspiring athlete whose exposure to heavy water fumes gives him the ability to move at incredible speeds.

The Butterfly Effect 2 Flutters Forward
    Source: ComingSoon!

FilmEngine has approved a pitch for a sequel to The Butterfly Effect, the 2004 New Line hit that studio plans to distribute, reports Variety.

The movie will have all new characters, meaning the original's star, Ashton Kutcher, is not expected to be involved. The film is on a fast track, with casting set to start as soon as a script is delivered. Producers hope to start shooting by the fall.

Veteran D.P.D.P. John Leonetti, who directed Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, has been tapped to helm from a script being written by Michael Weiss.

The story will follow a new character who, like Kutcher in the first, finds he can travel through time. As he changes past events, though, they have unexpected consequences in the present.

Two Arrive at Their Final Destination 3
    Source: ComingSoon!

Ryan Merriman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will star in Cheating Death: Final Destination 3, New Line Cinema's latest installment of the popular horror series, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story is set six years after the events of the first movie and centers on a high school senior who has a premonition of a fatal amusement-park accident involving her and her friends. When the premonition becomes a reality, those who survive are forced to deal with the repercussions of "cheating death."

James Wong, who directed 2000's Final Destination, is back in the director's chair.

Both Merriman and Winstead can currently be seen in theaters in The Ring Two.

    Sony Adapting Marvel's Killraven
    Source: ComingSoon!

Sony Pictures is in talks with Marvel Entertainment to develop comic book character Killraven into a sci-fi tentpole film, reports Variety.

Set in a future where mankind has been enslaved by an alien race, storyline follows a man who, though born in captivity, rises through gladiatorial battles to become the leader of a group of revolutionaries. Called the Freemen, his warrior-slaves unite in an attempt to drive the invaders off the Earth.

The trade adds that Sony already is in discussions with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan ("The Kentucky Cycle") to adapt the 1970s comic book series.

Marvel Studios' Avi Arad would produce the film, along with Angry Films' Don Murphy. Kevin Feige of Marvel would executive produce.

Avi Arad on the Silver Surfer Movie
    Source: SuperheroHype!
'roraz' tells us that Marvel Studios' Avi Arad told SFX Magazine new details on a proposed Silver Surfer movie.

Asked whether Galactus might appear in a Fantastic Four sequel, Arad said "Galactus is going to be in the Silver Surfer movie, which we're starting our journey towards."

But he said that there may be some franchise cross-pollination. "First we want to do the origin of the Silver Surfer and the Galactus story. But because it's the same studio, one day you'll probably have our version of Alien Vs. Predator - only a much, much better version."

    Source: SuperheroHype!
"X-Men" films star James Marsden (aka Cyclops) says he wants to return in the third installment, even though he's also starring in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. According to IESB.net, Marvel Studios' Avi Arad talked about Marsden today.

...he hopes to have James Marsden reprise his role as Cyclops in the next installment of the mutant series. Arad says that James Marsden called him and said that he read about this on the internet and said, "what are you doing...I told you I'm in."

It was previously reported that Cyclops will probably have a smaller role in X-Men 3. Thanks to 'TheFilmProphet'.

    Wonder Woman Costume News
    Source: SuperheroHype!
The new issue of Entertainment Weekly has a bit on Joss Whedon writing and directing Wonder Woman and mentions what the costume will NOT look like:

A "Marvel boy," Joss Whedon never really connected with rival house DC Comics' Wonder Woman, but now the guy's madly in love with her and is gonna write and direct Warner Bros.' long delayed feature! "She represents something absolutely pure," says the Buffy creator, who says his Amazon will not, repeat not, wear "star-spangled panties" a la Lynda Carter's TV incarnation. Whedon now sees it as a match made in fanboy heaven. "When I was mulling this over, my friend said, 'Joss, look at your freakin' resume. You have two things on it: wonder and woman. That's all you write!'"

50 Cent Hits Back At Jackson
    Source: DarkHorizons

A few weeks back Samuel L. Jackson made some rather interesting comments in regards to rapper 50 Cent and how he turned down a role in the Jim Sheridan project "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" (aka. "Locked and Loaded") because he didn't like working with actors (ie. musicians) yet to prove their worth.

Well the 'Cent' has hit back telling UK tabloid The Mirror that "Saying he wouldn't work with a rapper is like saying he wouldn't work with Will Smith, Queen Latifah or Ice Cube. Basically, he didn't want to play second fiddle. He knew that because of my success, people would come to see the movie because of me - and he couldn't handle that...To be honest, I couldn't see where he would fit into the movie anyway - other than as my grandfather".

    "Ring Two" Number One
    Source: E!Online

The tale-of-the-tape sequel to the Hollywood remake of the hugely popular Japanese horror franchise (got that?) scared up $36 million, per studio estimates Sunday, easily topping the weekend box office.

If estimates hold up, Dreamworks' PG-13 shocker will go down as the third-best March opener ever, behind a couple of Fox 'toons: Ice Age, which debuted with a mammoth $46.3 million in 2002; and Robots, which was last weekend's number one with $36.04 million.

With its target audience of young males ignoring the mostly dissing reviews, The Ring Two rung up an average of $10,804 at 3,332 sites. Directed by Hideo Nakata, who helmed the original Japanese hit Ringu, the spooky sequel about a cursed videotape again stars Naomi Watts as the single mom/intrepid journalist who should seriously consider upgrading to Netflix. It outperformed the opening gross of its 2002 predecessor, which tallied $15 million at about 2,000 theaters in its first weekend on its way to $129 million.

The weekend's other major wide release, Disney's Ice Princess, skidded in with just $7 million in fourth place.

The G-rated skating flick, starring Michelle Trachtenberg, Hayden Panettiere as rink rivals and (Joan Cusack and Kim Cattrall as their moms, couldn't land the sowcow. Targeted at tweens on spring break, Ice Princess averaged a frosty $2,804 at 2,501 theaters.

On the art-house circuit, Melinda and Melinda, Woody Allen's twice-told tale starring Radha Mitchell as the woman whose story is recounted as both a tragedy and comedy, made a big splash. The Fox Searchlight release, costarring Will Ferrell, ChloŽ Sevigny and Amanda Peet, played at one very full house in (natch) New York, where it averaged $74,048, an all-time record for a Woody movie and, if the estimate holds, for the distributor. Melinda and Melinda begins its gradual expansion this Wednesday, moving into about 85 sites in 12 cities, including Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Of the films held over, Fox's Robots proved far from clunky. The CGI droidfest only dropped 39 percent to second place, earning $21.8 million to bring its current gross to $66.8 million.

Sony, meanwhile, was trumpeting the "fantastic" hold of Hitch, which only dropped 25 percent and remained in fifth place in its sixth week. Will Smith's romantic comedy snagged another $6.6 million to bring its North American haul to $159.4 million and the studio anticipates it will eventually gross $170 million domestically and $300 million worldwide. Dropping even less--just 21 percent--in its 14th week was Warner Bros.' Best Picture Oscar winner Million Dollar Baby. Clint Eastwood's boxing drama, starring Hilary Swank, earned another $4 million in eighth place to bring its total to $90 million.

Overall the top 12 films tallied $108.3 million, up a fraction of a percent over this time last year, but 5 percent better than last weekend.

Here's a rundown of the top-grossing weekend movies based on preliminary figures compiled by Exhibitor Relations; final stats will be released Monday:

    1. The Ring Two, $36 million
    2. Robots, $21.8 million
    3. The Pacifier, $12.5 million
    4. Ice Princess, $7 million
    5. Hitch, $6.6 million
    6. Be Cool, $5.8 million
    7. Hostage, $5.7 million
    8. Million Dollar Baby, $4 million
    9. Diary of a Mad Black Woman, $3.5 million
    10. Constantine, $2.3 million
