Default What is the greatest bass riff ever???

I love the bass now...been playing a few months, after a 15 year career with the guitar and man have I come to appreciate it!! So, there are so many classic bass riffs,,,,but what in y.o. is the best?? Queen had quite a few great ones....how about u2's With or Without you...I know it wasn't a riff really but, man, what a great steady bass line!! Geddy Lee is of course up there with Tom Sawyer. Just wondering, always love to talk music!!!!!

As far as speed and shred bass guitar riffs, I like Colorado Bulldog by Billy Sheehan in Mr Big. I also like the bass riff on Orion by Cliff Burton.
    Just go for it!

That's exactly what l was thinking when l saw this post. I was just watching the Live in Rio Dvd the other day, and when they open up with Tom Sawyer, the place goes nuts, fantastic Dvd. And it is so hard to play a good bassline and sing.

I am no musician, but when I think of great bass riffs, I think of the entire catalog of The Who. i.e- "My Generation", "The real me", etc.

Another one that comes to mind is Jack Bruce on "Sunshine of your love".

Almost any song from Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Chili Peppers. I would pick "The Righteous and the Wicked" off that record. Flea rules.

Paul McCartney influenced an entire generation of rock bass players. The man can seriously play.

The entire live version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" from I believe, disc 4 of the Dreams box set from the Allman Brothers. Barry Oakley is the MAN!!!!!! His groove and prowess is amazing. This version is, I believe, played in a different octave or key than most versions. It's simply awesome, especially when in a state of altered consciousness while hanging outside and it's blaring through my outside speakers at a very high level of volume.......Try it sometime, you'll understand completely
