Default Mark Knopfler vs David Gilmour

IMO both guys worth each other. They have a very similar style and technique, and when I've first heard 'Brothers in Arms' I though that was a Pink Floyd tune!

Technically, I think Knopfler is a bit better, and as well as improvisation goes, but there is some special mood in David's sound. Gotta go with him here.

Dire Straits kick ass, no question. One of the great loves of my life wouldn't take two steps without Dire Straits or Peter Gabriel Genesis in her Walkman. I miss her, actually.

But agreed, Gilmour's got a one of a kind tone.

Gilmour, absolutely no contest. His songs and solos are 24602486204682 times better.

Knopfler rocks but Gilmour is the man!

Agreed...truly great to hear from you again!

Mark Knopfler writes amazing music..the soundtrack to "Local Hero" stands out in my mind.

Dave Gilmore plays blues licks, to my ear.

Not trying to insult anyone, that is simply my opinion as a guitarist.

Apples and Oranges is a vintage Pink Floyd tune, I used the pun due to David Gilmour being a part of this thread, sorry about that it was a very obscure reference.

    Pink Floyd—Apple and Oranges
Got a flip-top pack of cigarettes in her pocket
    Feeling good at the top
    Shopping in sharp shoes
Walking in the sunshine town feeling very cool
But the butchers and the bakers in the supermarket stores
Getting everything she wants from the supermarket stores
    Apples and oranges
    Apples and oranges

Cornering neatly she trips up sweetly
    To meet the people
    She's on time again
    And then
I catch her by the eye then I stop and have to think
What a funny thing to do 'cause I'm feeling very pink
    Apples and oranges
    Apples and oranges

    I love she
    She loves me
    See you
    See you

    Thought you might to know
    I'm the lorry driver man
    She's on the run
    Down by the river side
feeding ducks by the afternoon tide
    (quack quack)
    Apples and oranges
    Apples and oranges
    Apples and oranges
But I do appreciate this thread as opposed to Joe Perry vs Steve Vai
