    Default Peavey Tubefex

My local music shop has a couple of new Peavey Tubefex processors, which I got a hold of one for demo. Sounded great in the store, but when I got it home and hooked into my 5150 II, sound wasn't good at all with any kind of volume added. Lower volume yields good crisp brownsound. Was wondering anybody else have any experience with equipment and yielded good results.
Shop owner doesn't know much about it, but said they retailed for approx. $900, and let me have it for $150.

The tubefex is actually a very decent sounding processor.
The problem isn't the tubefex, it's your 5150 II.
Those amps are very picky as to what sounds good through them.

Did you take the output of the Tubefex into the Effects Return of the 5150 II?
How open-minded do I have to be before my brains start spilling out?

Yes, Tubefex unbalanced output left(mono) to effects return of 5150 II amp head. 5150 II effects send patched to Tubefex signal input. Tubefex effects turned on/off by remote pedal switch labled effects. Is this hooked up correctly?

    I'd try two things:

    1. Remove the cable from the 5150 II's effects send that goes to the Tubefex's signal input. Plug your guitar into the Tubefex signal input. The only link should be the Tubefex mono out to the effects return of the 5150 II. The Tubefex will override the preamp/eq controls on the 5150 II.

    2. If that doesn't work, try removing/adjusting the noise gate in "Browncake" patch. (Noise Gate = "NG" on LED)

Thanks mk5, I did as suggested in step 1, and WOW what a difference! Getting some awsome tones now.
