    Default Computer Question....

I want to completely wipeout the contents of my computer and then install a new operating system. How would I go about this besides carefully?
    Thanks for any help.

Well that depends on what operating system you want to load.

Go into the BIOS, in the boot sequence select CD ROM first, load the XP disk, it will give you the option to boot from CD rom, then go from there it will detect the previous OS, select the option to delete it, then load XP on it, I would recommend spliting the hard drive into 2 partitions if it is big enough.

I just read about a program called killdisk that apparently even the defense departmenet uses(who know's?). It says it will completely wipeout the hard drive. Are you familiar with that T.Ryan? If so and I use thpor...then do I just insert the Windows XP Prof. and go from there after killdisk is done?
    Thanks again.

you dont have to use that unless you got something to hide.
you can just boot to dos and type in format c:
and it will wipe your drive clean.
then you can do a fresh install of xp.

That would be "format C:", not "reformat". Just so nobody gets confused or frustrated.

Hey, what could the problems be when your DVD player, CD-ROM and all other ports fail to work. I have a USB hub hooked up and It recognizes that it's there and that even my digital camera card is in it; but it won't access it.

Do I have a major problem? Or is it somethinmg simple?

^ No, that's just one stupid company titled 'Microsoft' . I had the same problem with my USBs etc, plus XP has lagged terribly on my machine so I've returned back to my good old WinME.

BTW BottomzUp, you could do fdisk, with which you could create partitions while formating. Or format while creating partitions? Anyway, it's more powerful feature than format c: . Just type fdisk in dos and follow the instructions.

I already had partition magic done to save my shit once before. Now I simply wanna just save my family pics, important documents, some good porn...I mean sports stuff and some music to discs then just wipe it all out and start from scratch. Getting into all that partition magic again is probably very easy more many of you but it puts me in way over my head and I'd rather not mess with it. Click and save to disc sounds more my speed.
