What do you think is more difficult?

Hendrix or Van Halen? I would have to say Hendrix. I would rather spend my time perfecting stuff like Eruption or Little Guitars before even attempting somthing like Little Wing. At the same time I have a friend that wouldn't even try to touch VH but can put me to shame when it comes to any Hendrix. I'm not talking about which is better because thats just opinion but anyone who can play Hendrix is good in my book.

I would think they'd be pretty close in difficulty, but for different reasons.

The Hendrix style is probably hard to attain for you because you probably haven't spent much time practicing it, just like when you first started trying
to nail down Eddie songs. Hendrix's style is completely different--he used chords in a different way, sang when he played, and was probably pretty fried when he played. He had really big hands which was a big part of his sound.

Your style is probably got a firm foundation in VH-land. I bet if you practiced Hendrix as much as you have practiced VH, the goal wouldn't seem as unlikely.

Both are/were great players with very innovative styles.
How open-minded do I have to be before my brains start spilling out?

Yep..I agree. I practiced and play a lot more VH tunes than Hendrix, and I know that if a musician has a certain style they practice, they tend to have a "hard" time learning a different style, even if it is rock and roll.
Learning Vai vs. Satch songs are different to me....Vai is much tougher yet more rewarding to me when I figure it the fuck out!
    Just go for it!

Both equally impossible. Both have a feel, a vibe going on that simply cannot be copied. There are those who come close, but only close. I've never heard anyone who can do either of these guys too convincingly. That's a good thing I think. We are all unique individuals, and that's cool. It ain't cool spending all your time trying to sound like someone else. Not that I haven't tried...

Hendrix due to the simple fact that his guitar isn't in tune 100% of the time and it's very hard to mimic that.

Both are one of a kind greats.

Word of advice, if you like both, blend the two together with your other influences and create the first "Space Cowboy".

Ed with his technical harmonic stuff and speed but Hendrix with just his feel and vibe. Both have different styles so to say that one is harder than the other is kind of difficult but both are difficult to say the least. Every time I attempt to play little wing, I find myself mixing a bit of EVH in it too because I have played like him for so long but it would be hard to play a Van Halen song like Hendrix too.

BOISE STATE BRONCOS! - They're awesome. Deal with it!

11/16/04 - VAN HALEN in Boise, Idaho. Changed my life forever

8/8/06 - Sammy Hagar and the Wabos w/Michael Anthony in Boise, Idaho. Sam and Mike still kick ass

i agree that itas all about their vibe and feel.
i think trying to play both styles will end up giving you a nice influence on your own style and if you could mesh them with your own vibe, it would be a great sound/style.
i love little wing, but im nowhere near any of it yet

Strip both styles down to bare minimum , and I think you'd find that for the most part , it's all blues licks !
It's all the vibratto , divebombs , feedback , and pinched harmonics that set them apart and gives each style .
