Default Ed's borrowing- Hear About it Later/ Girl Gone Bad

We know Ed borrows from himself often, and I think I found another instnace that I've never noticed nor read about. At the end of Hear About it Later, Ed is distinctly playing a prevalent riff used in Girl Gone Bad- I think in GGB it's at the end of what would be called the bridge. It occurs at about 4min15sec at Hear About it, and is kind of in the background, but if you listening for it, you'll hear it loud and clear...

    anyone else hear this?

I would not say its a rip off. Its his style. Eddie does a lot of double stops with his riffs and also uses them to segue into different sections.

The example you gave are totally different. In GGB, he uses his double stops going up in a scale like fashion.

Wheras in HAIL, he is playing a pattern and then taking it up a third or so.

He does this in other songs to like Hot for Teacher and Me Wise Magic. Its his style and IMO, not ripping off himself.

Rip off? Sorry, don't see where I used that phrase...

I don't know anything about double stops or triple stops, and the only scale I have is in my bathroom...

but again, if you listen to HAIL at 4:15, he takes something from that and uses it in a song a couple of years later...

Now you can go ahead and explain to everyone why Jump and Top of the World are completely unrelated - just do me a favor and put that in the Guitar Forum, where it would make sense- your technical knowledge isn't helping much over here in the Songs/Albums/Videos forum...

On top of the fact that these songs are in totally different tunings. It's very rare that you see songs in different tunings containing a similar and/or same riff idea.

Hear About It Later - DbAbDbGbBbEb
    Girl Gone Bad - EADGBE

Even if something is similar and in the same position, it's still going to be a half step off. That's enough to NOT make it the same riff or borrowing etc. At least in my opinion.

Because to the non guitar player, it does sound the same...I've even played it for other people who've heard it too...to assume everyone on here plays guitar is either ignorant or arrogant- you choose...

If someone listens to Van Halen, is a big fan and DOESN'T play guitar, I think that there IS reason to be surprised. At least a little bit.
