    Default Not Enough

I was driving this weekend listing to the BOBW cd, and Not Enough came on. I remember when this song came out, and I was thinking, what in the hell is Eddie doing. The beginning sounds like he is just fucking around inside a piano. Has Ed ever said why he did this, or from a musicians standpoint, what was his inspiration to do this?

From what I've read in interviews Ed recorded himself messing around inside the piano while he was staying at Marvin Hamlish's beach house.(not sure if I spelled his name right) He said he was throwing ping pong balls in the piano and rubbing the strings with knives and all kinds of other shit. Needless to say the owner wan't all that happy about it. Anyway he said he has hours of him doing that on tape. Hope that helps out a little.

    Hours?

Ed, dude, stand away from the pipe and get some help. Wow. I'm sure some here will think this is just an artistic genius at work, but to me it is somebody on the Ozzy Osbourne brain cell death march.

yeah he said that he has hours of it, although Ed may be kinda off his rocker now from what I've read he recorded all the wierd piano stuff back in 83 or something like that, so I guess he's always been a little odd.

Not Enough is a great ballad but Strung Out is a waste of space. I never understood why they put Strung Out on Balance and not Crossing Over. I'm pretty sure Crossing Over is on the Japanese version but why the hell did they cut it for the US version?

Yeah, why do they cut songs for the Japanese Versions of things. Like we can't handle em or something. I woulda really liked Hot For Teacher on BOV1. Back in the day before I had all the albums and just had that one.

Japan market always gets extra stuff, whatever band or artist it is.

I really like Strung Out as an intro to Not Enough, it creates that slow down in the middle of an album which makes it even more great. A few would agree with me though .

I just wonder how it came to be included on the album---

    LOL Could be.

From what I read, it was Bruce Fairburn's idea to have that intro into "Not Enough" and he was the one who picked that 1 minute small piece from Ed's original recording.

"Strung Out" doesn't really bother me that much. It kinda makes the album darker and besides I always thought "Tora Tora" and "Intruder" were pretty weird at first hearing also.

    Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
    Bobby: Yeah, who else?

Yea, I was going to say, it is very much like Intruder..lots of noise and unpleasantness, and then BOOM, a nice, pleasing song....I think Ed likes to do this...just when you can't take the crap anymore, the song kicks in and you think "boy that build up was worth it"...I don't agree with Ed here...I say it is filler...but file it under Ed thinking "I'm an artist and I'll do what I want".

Two instrumentals on an album is a little too much. Technically, Baluchitherium (sp?) has no words so that pretty much makes it an instrumental too. That's insane, I think Doin' Time and Strung Out should have been left out, or at least one of them.
