I never really cared for this album except for a couple of songs. Although, I give Roth credit for trying some different types of music.

Man, oh, man...YFLM had a lot of potential but it lacked focus. There are a few great songs but as a whole it's average at best. I agree with Raldo: I give credit to Dave for trying some new stuff with this.

I think most of Dave's hardcore fans are too singlemindedly in love with the Dave of yesterday too much to accept anything else from him but that old big rock sound of Van Halen. "It's Dave or the grave...and, dammit, it better sound like Fair Warning!!"

The timing of this album wasn't good. The whole "grunge" thing was in full effect and the only people who could score with that big rock sound was Van Halen themselves. After YFLM tanked I think Dave shoulda went right back in the studio and made another album instead of disappearing for several years and doing that whole Vegas thing.

YFLM is great. Good songs, good production, and a good vibe. Had I been a huge DLR fan when it came out, I would have been hugely disappointed. From ALAE to that?? Talk about a genre change.

Dave did the right thing for himself with YFLM. ALAE's failure broke his spirit. You can't succeed at what you don't love when it comes to art.

    Notice this is VH opinions...

But anyway I don't listen to much Roth solo stuff, Eat Em And Smile was good but the stuff after that that I have heard wasn't too good to me.

Nope. After his first two, I realized it was over. I love those first (2) solo albums though.

I have YFLM and i cant stand it. Its not the kinda of Dave i like to hear (wheres the virtuoso guitarist with him!?!).

I like some stuff off ALAE but i wish becker wrote more tunes with him besides just two or three he's credited for.

You guys are nuts. ALAE was the height of Dave's hard rock abilities. He swallowed his pride and brought together all of the pieces needed to make a kick-ass album, and in that he succeeded brilliantly.

Hated YFLM when it came out, but it is a guilty pleasure for me now as I get older. Like it and hate Skyscraper, go figure.

Take off Land's Edge, No Big Ting, and Breathin' It, and put on Cruel Obsession, Shine the Light, and Kill the Guy and this album is damn good.

He also released a pretty crappy song as the first single. She's My Machine is average at best, even though by 1994 Dave would have had to release Physical Grafitti for anyone to notice.

I remember MTV called it "Zero on the Richter scale" when it came out. Ouch!

Liked the tour though. Last time he played a lot of solo stuff live. If you can get the Charlotte boot it is pretty damn good and Dave sounds great. Good quality boot too.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

She's My Machine, Everybody's Got The Monkey, and Big Train all rock. After that I turn the cd player off.

I agree with Mike, ALAE was the height of Dave's abilities. Great album.

I like a lot of songs on it, but it did need focus. I guess I'm one of the few who liked "No Big T'ing," huh? I love his harmonies on that song.

Yup, and Skyscraper is even pushing it. I liked ALAE when it first came out but it has not stood the test of time at all. ALAE still has a couple good ones (title track and It's Showtime) but "Hammerhead Shark", "Sensible Shoes"

Bob Rock couldn't even save that album Becker kicks ass on it though.....
