    Dreams on the 5150 tour?

Did they play dreams on the 5150 tour? It's obviously not on LWAN. I don't know whether they cut it off the video or they just didn't play it at that show. It was a pretty big song, one of the biggest of that album and they played it on later tours. Maybe it was because Ed played keyboards live on that tour and the guitar was too important/distinctive/difficult for Sammy to play for that song. What's the dilly?

Yeah, they played it on the shows I saw them, Ed played keys for the whole tune except the solo, he did on the guitar, I think they may have altered that song depending on the night, it did sound empty compared to how they do it now with Ed playing the guitar through the whole song.

I couldn't agree more...I'd much rather hear recorded keys and have Ed on the strings live throughout this and other songs.

I wish they would not play that song live anymore.

    Default Respectful disagreement

I wish they would integrate themselves more as a band, not so much the EVH show. Ed plays great guitar, but how cool is it that Sam can play some guitar stuff, and that Ed is versatile enough to play the keys. Heck, in 1984, Mikey was playing some keys too.

I think they should use Sam's guitar more. Heck, play some rythm parts on the old VH stuff. Dirty Movies anyone?
You know the best tone I ever had was with that little bandmaster cranked to 10. Edward Van Halen, 1980, Guitar Player Magazine.

Unfortunately, Sam wouldn't touch an obscure, classic VH tune like "Dirty Movies".

I'm all for Sammy playing old school VH with the band, but he shouldn't touch Dirty Movies. There are certain songs that DLR has to sing like Ice Cream Man, DOA, Little Guitars, and Dirty Movies. Those just wouldn't work with Sam

I think the best comes out of Sammy playing when they are playing his solo songs and Ed gets to noodle while Sammy plays. It adds so much to his music to have Ed, Al, and Mikey--obviously, but just having Ed noodling while Sammy is playing his music is incredible.

What's really sad is that VH with Dave never touched "Dirty Movies" either. Possibly the best ever VH song never performed live????

Yep! Sure did! @ the Cow Palace we renamed it 'the beer run song'.
Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...

DLR: It was like a stand off in a Chuck Norris movie. We each had the laser dot on everybody's forehead waiting for the other guy to blink. Except for Wolfie, he had a Super Soaker ...
