    Least Favorite VH Album

What is your least favorite VH studio album and I want answers with good reasons. I am exempting Van Halen III for obvious reasons. No live albums or compilations. Don't talk about added Dave or Sammy tracks on the 2 compilations or soundtrack stuff. I feel inclined to exempt Diver Down too but we'll let it go for now because I know some people really dig the couple of originals on it so hopefully it won't get bashed too bad.

I'm gonna start by saying OU812. It just never clicked with me. Maybe it's just too 80's. I feel like Ed's guitar on 5150 and OU812 began to imitate the people who were imitating him if you know what I mean. I guess it didn't sound as raw to me as albums did 5 years earlier or 5 years later for that matter. It sounded more poppy and polished (fake or artificial even). Don't get me wrong, he's still the best even at his worst but I feel like those 2 albums definately saw his weakest playing (I know, I know, begin the bashing and arguments). I did really work up a love for 5150 though. At first I wasn't crazy about it, but it just took some time and repeat listenings. Maybe the same can be said for OU812 but that's my choice at this point.

I suspect OU812 will get a lot of votes. I always feel bad for the lil' black n' green album. It's one of my faves. Maybe because I'm an eighties reject.

Anyway, I don't necessarily have a 'least favorite', but probably a 'least played.' And that would be Van Halen II. Underrated, sure, but I've heard DTNA, SGMAD, and BG so much merely on the radio that they're entirely washed out for me. And I'm not a big fan of WIL. When II plays in the changer, I'll listen to LUTS, DOA, Bottoms Up, and that's all she wrote.

probably diver down, it's not very consistent, and the covers let it down. I still think it's a great record though

My least two favorite =VH= albums are Diver Down and OU812. Unfortunately, I can't differentiate between the two as to which one I like the least.

Diver Down is loaded with the covers, many of which I just don't care to hear. Where Have All The Good Times Gone? is awesome, but Pretty Woman, Dancing In The Streets, Big Bad Bill, and Happy Trails all just seem like filler. Now, in addition to covers, I'm not very fond of Hang 'Em High either. The song wasn't anything great when it was called "Last Night" in the 70s, and it is only marginally better with the lyrics that had it renamed Hang 'Em High. As for the rest of the originals, my opinion of Secrets isn't very high, but I do think that Cathedral is pretty cool. And Little Guitars and The Full Bug are just plain awesome. The bottom line is that when I listen to Diver Down it only takes 20 minutes because I skip all those covers and usually Hang 'Em High, so I barely even listen to that album anymore.

OU812, on the other hand, could have been a stellar album. I find this album difficult to listen to sometimes because the production is just so damn poor. It's got some pretty good songs on it, like Mine All Mine, and When It's Love. Also, A.F.U. is awesome, but the rest of the album is lacking in my opinion. Black and Blue gets old fast, Source of Infection, while good at times, feels like filler at others, and I think that A Apolitical Blues is just utter shit. My feelings are much better for Sucker In A 3 Piece. Cabo Wabo is pretty good, but once again, I get sick of it fast. Finally, we come to Finish What Ya Started. Before hearing this song on Live: Right Here, Right Now, I thought it was complete garbage. I still haven't listened to the studio version of this song more than 10 times in my life. I think it sounds like complete shit. It's weak all the way around in my opinion. But that's just on the album, in terms of live, its one of my favorite tunes.

This is my justification for calling these two albums my least favorite =VH= albums, but don't get me wrong, I would still choose to listen to these two albums over just about anything any other band has to offer.

Diver Down gets love from me. Yeah, packed with covers, but VH is doing them, so who am I to bitch? I think it's a far more fun album than WACF.

Aside from "EWS" and "Cradle".....the CD just doesn't get a lot of play here on K-SCUM radio. I guess WACF is my least fave.

Okay, this may come as a shock to some, and I have a feeling that I'll be hearing some feedback, but I'd say F.U.C.K. is my least favorite.
First of all, you talk about an album being "polished," this one's, like, over-produced, with layers and layers of guitars. Gone is the raw Van Halen energy.
2nd of all, Eddie didn't really do anything special on the album. Everything seemed to planned out, and manufactured.
Bottom line, it's the album I probably play the least. Yes, I love some of the songs on it (Poundcake, JD, Dream is Over), but I think it seemed too commercial to me.
Oh, and it has my least favorite song by VH on it: In 'N' Out (aside from How Many Say I)
One thing I did love about the album; Alex's drums never sounded better.

I'm gonna say WACF. Just the least played of the collection. I can't pinpoint a reason, maybe just tired of hearing EWS and ATCWR all the time on local radio (well, used to hear, not now that I have Sirius). I even listen to III more often. I hit 'skip' most when playing WACF, I guess.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

I agree. I think besides ATCWR, which I've just heard too much, and Tora, Tora/Loss Of Control, that WACF is one hell of an album. But opinions are like assholes...

I totally agree 5150 and OU812 never were my thing cept a few songs. VH1-1984, and F.U.C.K.-VH3 I like, but everyone loves those two but I just don't.

Diver Down. I may break it out, haven't listened to it in years.

I think if OU812 was recorded better it would probably get a little more run. Sounds really weak..Zero bass. Even so, Cabo Wabo and Black and BLue are good enough reasons to buy the whole thing.

It would be a toss up between WACF and Dvier down, I am in the same boat as the other person on this thread, WACF is my least listen to album, the ONLY reason I stuck DD in this post is ONLY because of the covers, other than that Secrets, HEM,LG, there are some great tunes on this album.
