Billy is one cool cat. I'll be seeing him with Vai in about a week. Can't wait! Great interview with fun stories.

Sounds like Mikey has gotten the short end of the stick for many years with the VH brothers.

If the chapters on this site from SH's book are real.......Holy Shit. Mike has been really shafted in regards to finances with Van Halen. You have to give Mike credit for not airing any of this in public. I'm sure some day (probably a long time from now) Mikey will have his say, a book etc. on what went down in VH.

That was a real cool read. I cant imagine Mike not being in VH. WOW!!!! I was shocked to read that they went and asked billy to play with VH. Glad they were able to sit down and talk like adults back in the day. And Mike never left. I love reading stories like this.
Georgia Tech Football - Bring on Utah!!!! Go Jackets!!!!
    Falcons - I hear playoffs
Atlanta Braves - Need to make some real moves
Atl Hawks - 3-0 alright were undefeated and when did they pick up this guy called Marvin Williams?????

Billy is a class act, all the way!

    WOW! Great read! Thanks!
My goodness, tons of VH & DLR mentions. Although these guys have made it elsewhere, DLR really made Billy Sheehan, Steve Vai, and Ray Luzier really famous! They say that those three will be jamming a lot this tour that they are going on! All they need to do is get a singer by the name of DAVID LEE ROTH, and they're set!
It is really sad to see that Eddie approached Billy to join VH and axe Michael Anthony! MIKEY ROCKS! Even Billy said this in the interview:
CRR: You were also approached by Eddie about joining Van Halen werenít you?

Billy: Yeah I kept it quiet for along time but now that things are pretty much over with them, I like Michael Anthony, heís a great guy and heís so important to that band. I was kind of torn inside because I didnít want to see the band change but I sure did want the gig you know?
Who knows what the real motivation was, I donít think they thought Michael was a bad player at all, so Iím not sure what was behind it. I really like Michaelís playing in the band, heís a great singer and heís such an important part of that band for me as a fan. Like I said I was torn, it was a great honor to know that I must have been doing something right if they were asking me to join the band. They did ask me, it was a great, great honor and Iím very thankful that they did even though it didnít work out in the end.
Talk about Billy being HUMBLE!!! The man is a class act! Thank God that he was a HUGE VH FAN! That's what kept him from joining VH, because he was torn to see MA go, and that he LOVES Michael Anthony's playing and SINGING in VH. I don't want to even imagine how VH would have been without Mikey! That's a scary thought!

After reading this a second time, something has come to my attention:
CRR: You were also approached by Eddie about joining Van Halen werenít you?

Billy: Yeah I kept it quiet for along time but now that things are pretty much over with them...
WHAT DID BILLY MEAN BY THAT? What does he know that we don't? I'm afraid of this statement! Does this mean that VH is over? I sure hope not. This interview, even though the thread says it's a recent 2005 interview, has some references to the timing being after the announcement of the VH 2004 tour with Sammy. One example is Billy said that DLR is starting EMT training, and the first report that DLR was starting EMT training was on 6-25-04 (which was WEEKS after VH announced the reunion tour with Sammy! Did DLR get jealous, and go for EMT training to take some of the spotlight on VH & Sam? Did he give up on joining VH and wanted to try something new? Or did he honestly just want to be in the medical field, like his pops?). Has Billy has been living underneath a rock? VH had the #11 highest grossing tour of 2004! And that's without a new studio album (BOBW was a greatest hits, obviously), and had very little promotion. What is Billy talking about when he says "things are pretty much over with them"? Either he didn't know about the 2004 tour grossings (or it happening at all, which is WEIRD), or he knows of something new about the band. He may be putting in his 2 cents, with the condition of Edward, and all. Who knows?

Naw dude, I think he was referring to his relationship as far as joining the band being over.

Good read. He obviously gave props to Dave and still has great respect past, present and future. I would love to see the EUAS band roll again.

Thanks for posting the link. It was good to read his thoughts about the Skyscraper album. I liked the album but it had nowhere near the balls that EEAS had.

Funny thing is that it seems like every time I read an interview by more and more people in the business like this, the more and more I realize that Ed and Al are pretty much jerks and how cool most people seem to be. I just wish they had the care for their fans like other people/bands do. I still have a long life to live and I need a few more VH albums to have enough music to listen to for the rest of my life. Purely for selfish reasons, but not as selfish as the guys holding all the cards to getting us more new music.
"I write and play music for a living, I'm not a businessman. It seems like all attorneys ever do is stir up trouble. They create problems that never existed and ream you for half your money, then they try to fix what they started and nail ya for whatever money you got left. I'll tell ya, man, I don't see how these guys sleep at night." --Edward Van Halen

Big surprise! I heard this some time back, but it doesn't surprise me. Give Ed time and he will want to replace himself.
