I think as a Van Halen fan you're morally obligated not to watch MTV.

Thanx man. Thought you'd say that
My parents have already gotten MTV off of their channel program, and we just got cable today!

Being a Canadian (no, I don't know Ray Danniels, stop throwing things
), I've never even seen MTV. But the impression I get from most of the folks here who have MTV is that it's virtually devoid of any music at all. I have seen VH1 before, and it's not too bad.

Right Now, it's safe to add one (1) to my post count.
Right Now, strange is beautiful.
Right Now, I'm a Dirty Faced Kid.
Right Now, teenybopper trash doesn't stand a chance.
Right Now, MTV has no idea what happens when rabid Van Halen fans have their favorite band insulted.
Soon Enough, they'll learn the hard way.

Neither is really good for Van Halen. For music in general, VH1 tends to stay on topic, as all their shows (for the most part) have some grounding in music.
Only problem with VH1 is that they have the annoying habit of showing the same show over and over (can't tell you how many times the dang-blasted Metallica behind the music has been on when I flipped past). Then again, MTV has shown the music awards something like, what, twenty times already this year?
Wonder if they're doing that to rub it in our faces?

VH1 is owned by MTV.
It's better than MTV, in it's own 'just-slighty-LESS-lame' way, but still...

MTV2. It's all videos, all the time. Sometimes they even play good ones.

I think they both suck.

To me VHI is much better, because it has a sense of history about it. You can actually learn something about the history of rock. I like their top 100 shows, Legends, Storytellers, documentaries, Behind the Music, and even the List is at least entertaining. I would much rather watch any of those than the punks on road rules or the real world. As for the actual videos, VHI may be a little more middle of the road than MTV, but with the current sad state of music, that's not such a bad thing. One of my biggest beefs with MTV is that they like to mock and ridicule beasts that they helped create in the first place. How many times have we seen them take shots a artists they used to play the hell out of? ie: Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, New Kids, MC Hammer, the 80s hair bands. I gurantee you that in a couple of years they'll be making fun of the boy bands and Limp Bizkit. MTV might not suck, but they'll hold one in their mouth until the swelling goes down.

I am not really too much of a TV person with exception to sports. I perfer my little white box that I type on quite a bit and a cd changer full of great tunes. The one thing that the internet has done is made entertainment more interactive. No more idiot box telling you things. You can state your opinion and discuss.
