Default Humans Being vs. Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do)

I think these two are probably the crunchiest of the Hagar era. Whatcha all think? Humans takes it for me but juuuuuuust a nose.

I was never crazy about the solo on DTM. I like them both but Humans Being is the stronger song.

Very different tunes. DTM is tied with the Balance, HB is a single. Let's say, as a tune alone I'd prefer Humans Being, but on the album - DTM on any day of any week.

I think that's a fairly astute statement, Scum. They are the Cap'n Crunch trax of the Hagar era.

It's funny, earlier today I received a package from Japan...another edition of the Japanese Balance CD (worn out a few copies over the years). After listening to it, I realized it'd been some time since I truly appreciated the majesty of Don't Tell Me. Yeah, Sam's lyrics sure suck, don't they.

Don't Tell Me rocks balls. Period. What an epic tune.

    However...

I still have to stick by a long-held belief...that Humans Being, weird as it is for a track that was never on a real album, is THE defining post-84 track for old Van Squalen. Background vocals, melodic chorus, rip roaring axe work, bitchin' solo...it's in my top two Van Halen songs of all time. Probably for the same reasons many of the Dave era gang like it as well...it harkens back to the dark brown sound days.

So yeah...Humans Being takes it for me.

Humans Being, but not by much. Don't Tell Me is a great song, one of my favorites on Balance.

Mish, I like you. I never had a reason to post anything nasty about you or to you. I think you're (as my uncle is fond of saying) "good people".

    okay.....with that said:

What the fuckin fuck does that have to fuckin do with fuck?

Can the two songs not stand on their own merits without the benfit of an album? I have seen several threads like this one and this is the first time I've seen a concern for the lineup of songs on an accompanying album.

Humans Being Is the Second Best VH Song EVER. By far and away the Shining Moment For all of Sammy's Career, Solo or VH, and I can't Listen to it because it makes too sad to think what could have been.

Human's Being on this one, more of a punch and drive straight through type of tune, Ed' s sound is also way better on this, mind you Sammy does a great job on Don't Tell Me (even though his balls are in a vice), and overall drum sound would have to go to DTM as well, I always though Al's drum sound was probobly the best on Balance.

Ahhh hard, even though I'm not the biggest fan of Hagar, those are probably my two favorites of his. I'll go with Humans Being since Don't Tell Me Has weird lyrics (well HB does but DTM lyrics seem to have nothing to do with Sam) And since Ed looks kinda funny in the Humans Being video.

I agree. The live Toronto show from the Balance tour - that song is the epitomy of Van Halen. It gives me chills just thinking about it. I can watch that over and over. It's the best few minutes I've ever seen or heard from any band at any time.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

I'd have to go with Don't Tell Me. I love Humans Being too, but there's just something about Don't Tell Me that just really kicks ass!

Humans Being is my favorite of the two. Although Don't Tell me sounded better Live than HB did on the 04 Tour. IMO

When I heard HB for the first time I said to myself, "if that's the last song they ever do it was a great one."

Note to self: NEVER say that about another VH tune
