    Default Rising Gas Prices...

Saw this on CNN website. Doesn't suprise me (but going up this much if true???)

    Big gas price surge soon?

Report says pump prices could shoot up by about 25 cents a gallon in coming days to new record.
    March 4, 2005: 8:11 AM EST

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Gasoline prices could rise by about quarter a gallon in the coming days to new record levels, according to a published report Friday.

USA Today, quoting energy experts and analysts, reported that a gain of 24 to 28 cents a gallon is possible as stations scramble to keep up with recent increases in oil and wholesale gasoline prices.

An increase of 24 cents a gallon would put the average retail price of a gallon of regular gas at about $2.16 a gallon, according to the Energy Information Agency, the Department of Energy unit that tracks prices. The EIA's survey put the average price at $1.928 in Monday's survey, up 2.3 cents from a week earlier.

The EIA's earlier record of $2.02 a gallon for regular was hit in May of 2004.

Oil prices hit $55.20 a barrel in trading Thursday, which was within 47 cents of record intra-day levels for crude oil. But prices retreated about $2 a barrel since that high. Gasoline futures set a record at $1.5450 a gallon.

The paper reported that even higher prices could be ahead as increased warm weather driving pushes up demand.

Tom Kloza, senior analyst at the Oil Price Information Service, told the paper that retail gasoline prices lag increases in wholesale prices since Christmas by about 25 to 28 cents a gallon. He says he believes the record prices won't come until the latter half of March.

But Peter Beutel, president of energy tracking firm Cameron Hanover, said a spike of 24 cents a gallon could happen in the coming days.

"It's going to be brutal, horrendous," he told the paper

I won't say now my names for those greedy bastards (don't want to offend anyone here). I drive a gas-guzzlin' Chevy pickup so it will hit me somewhat in the wallet. Not worried about the $$$ too much as I'm worried about the Mrs. nagging me on my truck's gas consumption rate...

My Mustang is a gas guzzling whore. It's been pissing me off lately with these high prices. Here gas spends two weeks going down, and then skyrockets. For the last week and half it moved from $2.00 down to $1.85, and then yesterday, BAM, $2.11. These gas prices are getting ridiculous though. One thing that is interesting is that I was doing some work with the Consumer Price Index for my macroeconomics class and I compared the price of gas during the gas crisis in 1984 to now, and the prices then were equivalent to over $3 per gallon in today's prices, so this obviously isn't the worst that things could be.

Both my Silverado and GTO suck down gas like crazy, thanks to my right foot being made of lead. Oh well! I just won't buy any pornos this month to make up for the increased gas bills.

Just filled up, $1.81....MY LORD IT'S UP .02 ALREADY!!!!

I just know there's a connection between gas going up and somewhere around 40-50 Ford Explorers being offered for sale in the classifieds.

I just keep cruising in my Chevy Crapolier.......

I was lucky this morning and passed up a $1.89 place this morning and found a $1.69 about a mile up the street.

And just when it was starting to fall.

I think the thing that pisses me off is that when oil prices go up, they'll immediately jack gas up like .10c OVERNIGHT, but when oil prices drop, they keep it high a few days, then knock off .02c, then another .02 a couple days later, etc.

My Saturn with 170k on it still gets 32 mpg. Been wanting a new truck, but, whenever i fill up my wife's suv its like $40 bucks, so i change my mind.

Things aren't even *close* to being "bad". People are just whiners.

Gas is quite cheap, comparatively. People will b*tch about anything, if they're uneducated or ignorant. Americans are typically both.

Either way, that's the price you pay for driving a vehicle that isn't efficient.

OPEC said recently that oil barrels could top $80 here in the States in 2006! And we thought that in the $50-60 range was high!!! This could be due to:
    1. The weak US $ in the world economy (it has to pick up!).
    2. Terrorists are bombing too many oil fields, especially in Iraq, stagnating production.
    3. OPEC and the Arab countries will do what they want, charge what they want, and we'll still buy it.

SOLUTION TO ALL 3? Make Iraq a U.S. province! It sure beats allowing it to become an Islamic state, or even worse, the next IRAN!!!

A much more likely reason is rising global demand. This is economics, not fiction. There isn't going to be a reduction in demand, given the development of emerging economies.

The really sad thing is that this is all very predictable and not at all surprising, yet our leaders have done absolutely nothing to prepare us for this. It'll sap the vitality from our economy, and continue to transfer our economic wealth to countries that simply do not like us. It's almost criminally negligent.

Mike, I may not always agree with everything you say, but that was put well.

    maybe i won't be buyin' a Hemi...

most stations here are sitting right around $2.09. the new Sam's Club across from work has gas pumps, and usually undercuts the guys up the street, but i don't know if they'll go below $1.99. i filled up this morning at $1.96, cashed in a "get ten cents off a gallon of gas w/a $50 grocery purchase" at the local chain.

I've been paying over 2 bucks a gallon for some time now. You folks paying 1.89 should be happy.

    $2.23 - Regular
    $2.46 - Premium

I get 30 MPG highway and 24 City in my little Nissan pickup though. I do make it a point not to drive one day a week.
