    Default Brian May's Tone

Has anyone gotten close to getting May's tone without getting a deacy amp, AC30 and Tri-Sonic pickups?
Using maybe a POD or some other effects.

Much has been written about May's rig. So I would try to expand on that. But I do believe, just like many of our great axemen, that much of May's tone is in his fingers. And LOTS of volume.

I understand that alot has to do with the fingers and style but just looking for basic type of tone and go from there. Does he use alot of compression?

Have you looked thru the pod on-line library? I downloaded a few May samples, a while back, and it was cool to do the echo type stuff etc. I read he used a coin as a pic too.

I will look at the POD online and see what they have. I almost bought a POD today but the gsales guy at Daddys JM could not tell me anything about it. What a shame because I probably would have bought it from him.

Brian's tone is a combo of everything mentioned previously but also realize the "Red Special" provides a LOT of his sound too. With it being completely handmade and designed he has the ultimate in control on that guitar with what he can do with it. The options available to him are limitless.

I can't wait until they tour the states this fall so I can go see them. I am not a big Paul Rodgers fan but something tells me it wont be permanent (Why not Gary Cherone, I guess getting burned once as a replacement frontman for a HUGE band was enough but I remember the FM tribute concert and he rocked it, or George Michael even he has the vocal chops and the pipes FFS). I want to see Brian and Rodger "Live" and in the flesh before I lose my chance to. Can't have Freddie but I can live with Bri and Rog.

I "almost" got to see Queen in Greensboro back in '81( but i was only 6 and my parents decided that wasn't the best atmosphere for me) and ALMOST weaseled my way into going to see them in Wembley in '86 . Couldn't talk the 'rents into taking me to england to see a rock band, I had them convinced until some news about Munich came out(when freddie sort of did) DAMN IT.

One of my co-workers now is a transplant from Birmingham UK who DID get to see them in '86 at Wembley(lucky bastard).

I will just live with my Queen DVD's and boots that I have amassed.
