    Thornley.

Does anyone else like the new Canadian band Thornley? I saw them live last weekend, they rock, they have a bunch of songs I really like. The song Easy Comes sounds really incredible live! It rocks hard!

You can hear 3 of their songs on their website here...

The only thing I don't like about this band is their lack of guitar solos. That really sucks. But when I saw them live, Ian had a really good guitar solo, and there was a cool drum solo too.

Indeed they are good, dont you think the singer looks like (and sounds like) Chris Cornell?

In the come again video there are shots were he is a spitting image of chris cornell. I did see him live an he does look different in person, he's actuallly a pretty big dude. Singing wise, I think the sound of their voices is similar but the big difference is in their songwriting, this is were the similarities stop. Another difference is that Ian is the lead guitar as well as the main songwriter in the band. It's rare to see the lead guitarist be the singer, songwriter and lyricist. He does it all man, and he writes kick ass tunes.

Just saw them live on Friday night, and they rocked hard as usual. Ian is such an amazing singer. They did a cover of Immigrant Song by Zep and he nailed all those high notes. At one point he just held this super high scream for about 10 seconds and it shattered my teeth. Seeku, the drummer did his usual 10 minute drum solo which kicked ass.

If you haven't checked out Thornley yet, you really ought to.

Default Ian Thornley of Big Wreck

    Hi,

I know I've mentioned that I'm a HUGE fan Ian Thornley of Big Wreck fame (The Oaf, That Song, Lady Like, Inhale, etc). Subsequent to Big Wreck going their own respective ways - Ian released a solo (Thornley Band) CD in 2004 (Come Again) that contained many fantastic songs (Easy Comes, Come Again, So Far So Good).

I give you the background as because he's a Canuck - many times, he's overlooked in the USA...if you haven't downloaded any of those songs - do yourself a favour and check them out - all are rock solid, traditional "crunchy" rock (especially Easy Comes!!).

Anyway, Thornley Band has released a new track called Make Believe...a big more mellow (along the lines of That Song) in advance of their new CD coming on Feb 10th. It is a brilliant tune - and I recommend checking it out.

    Let me know your thoughts!
    Cheers.
    Scott.

New Big Wreck song announced today to stream on their site; very fleetwood mac-ish. The solo at the end is pretty awesome
