Default Serious songs versus Goofball songs

What type of VH song do you prefer? I used to lean toward the goofball stuff (Ice Cream Man, Sucker in a 3 Piece, Panama, etc.), and wasn't too fond of a lot of the serious stuff (5150, On Fire, etc.), but now I find myself liking serious stuff better--as long as it rocks hard. I still love the goofball stuff (Ice Cream Man and Hot for Teacher are my all time favs., but I now love 5150, Pleasure Dome, One I Want, Year to the Day, On Fire, One Foot Out the Door, etc. Maybe it's not whether the lyrics are serious or not, but I like the music that is more serious sounding.

    What do you guys prefer?

That's exactly why I prefer Sammy era over CVH - I like serious songs much more.

To quote the great Dr. David Lee Roth: "A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union."

To me VH is top down, pedal to the floor, crack the kegs, and let the good times roll music. I just don't need any social commentary or history lessons in VH songs. That would just drown out Eddie, Alex and Mike anyway.
To each their own though. VH means different things to different people. That is the beauty of VH.

I never considered Panama or Hot for Teacher "goofball stuff" (ok, maybe Hot for Teacher a little, but it ROCKS!). However, "Up for Breakfast" is completely "goofball stuff"! It's hilarious, amusing, and entertaining, all at the same time! As far as which type I prefer, I will go with the serious stuff most of the time. Sometimes, however, I like the goofy stuff. It completely depends on my mood.

As I get older, I seem to enjoy the serious stuff a little bit more. Although, nothing beats a good goof-ball song blasting from the car radio on a hot summer night!

I want to clarify something: "Goofball" does not imply anything negative, at least it wasn't my intention. Sometimes a song has a fun/carefree vibe (Beautiful Girls, Hot for Teacher, Good Enough, Dirty Water Dog, etc.) which is what I mean by "goofball." It doesn't mean they're not good music, it's just the vibe they emit. I love goofball songs.
