It seems that many of your questions are answered right there in the thread. There is even a detailed taping layout. As far as the painting goes, I'm pretty sure it's black first, then white, then red. Stripe a black guitar, paint white, stripe more after white dries, paint red, remove tape.

Use krylon or schwinn paint, whatever suits you.

do some digging--there is some good info in threads on this in this guitar room.
How open-minded do I have to be before my brains start spilling out?

I saw the taping layout, but wasn't sure which goes first, the only other thing I really wanted to know is about clearing over the bicycle paint.

IT seemed tha most of the guyswho did them in that thread used regular(not bicycle) paint and then cleared it.

I'm not sure what happens to the tone if you don't clear coat it.

There are a million pics on my website showing the guitar I built. I started with a hard ash body from Warmoth (not swamp ash) very important. I have a detailed painting scheme that I got off the internet. I can send it to you if you PM me. I purposely didn't clearcoat it because his wasn't. I wanted that same worn out grimey look that he had. I like the fact you can see and feel all the layers of paint! Nothing bugs me more than when I see all these replica guitars that have all this thick varnish over the paint scheme, nothing looks more cheesy. I can provide a detailed list of everything I used, I researched it extensively and have tried a ton of combinations. I think I got as close as one can get to the look AND sound. I even have the paint code numbers to use. The only thing I deviated from his was Stainless Steel frets, I wanted the feel and the little bit of brightness that they give you. The pics and the tone speak for themselves, I would put it up against anybody elses' on the planet.

There are a lot of secrets to get the perfect tone, but it starts with the guitar...
