Default Peace of Mind...The Boston Thread

Come on...you know you like them! Boston rocks! Not so much lately, but they were a force back in the day.

First album in '76, and only 4 studio albums and a GH since. They did make a mark on the music world.

Boston is the kinda band that you ask, "Where were you when you first heard...?" The answer is usually, "In the backseat of my <insert musclecar here>"

Come on, let's hear it for Boston!!
A little more volume in the headphones please.

If you don't have Boston's first album in an honored position within your CD collection, you're less than hip to the true classic rock scene.

Awwww yeah!!! I've been waiting for this... Boston rules, man. The first three records are classics! I grew up on "Long Time", "Rock & Roll Band" (Love the reference to "playing for a week in Rhode Island" because I was born there!), "It's a party", "A man I'll never be"..... Love it all. I've met Brad Delp on several occasions and not only is he a totally nice guy, he has one of the most amazing voices in rock. I have a lot of respect for this band. I know a lot of people accuse them of being corporate but I really don't give a shit.

Boston was my first "rock" band. I bought the single for "More Than A Feeling" in November of 1976 on vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, followed with "Long Time" and "Peace of Mind" in early 1977. Probably the first singles where I really liked the B-sides, too ("Smokin'", "Let Me Take You Home Tonight", "Foreplay"). At some point I heard the long versions of the songs and also, looking at the album, saw that "Foreplay" and "Long Time" went together (which somehow I would put together using my cheapo Radio Shack monaural cassette player - wasn't too bad, actually) and so with all that information broke down and bought the complete album. Don't Look Back didn't bowl me over quite as much, though the title track is probably my favourite Boston song. Third Stage was a disappointment after waiting 8 years, though it's grown on me over the years to where I really enjoy it. Can't get into Walk On still and never got brave enough to pick up Corporate America. Still, that initial splash can't be denied - great music and I also could stare at the album covers for awhile!

Their first album is awesome! Their other albums aren't half as good to me. I listen to Walk On sometimes though, it has a few great songs.

    I agree...

With everyone. They were the shit when they initially hit. I was in 7th grade and already playing guitar. It had a profound impact on me and probably explains my love for melodic, guitar oriented rock to this day.
I was at the World's Fair in Vancouver when I bought Third Stage. Being a Marine, I had been on duty on a ship in the Persian Gulf when it came out. It was the first purchase I made upon leaving the ship that day. What a memory! It was too "Rockman-ish" for me, but I still loved Brad's voice.
Overall, one of my all time fave bands!

    Default SMOKIN'... The Boston Thread

A lot of people have only heard the debut, but I feel that they have more than one great album. Even after the point where people thought they started sucking (When Delp left).
My favorite songs from Tom Sholz and co. are
    -Don't Look Back
    -I Need Your Love
    -Foreplay/Longtime

I have all 6 releases and have seen them in concert in 2003. I like them but I do think they started trailing off after Third Stage. Don't get me wrong though I like pretty much all of Walk-On and a lot of Corporate America....but the first 3 albums were first rate. I don't listen to them as much these days cause they only have 5 albums so there's not enough to go around and I've heard everything so many times already. But I'll pop in a cd every once in a while.

    Default Boston (The Band)

They have made some kick ass songs. Foreplay/Longtime, Don't Look Back, More than a Feeling, Smokin, Peace of Mind, etc. But yeah, they have a lot of other songs that blow. But they should be credited for their music. I think they are great.

The first 3 minutes of Foreplay/Longtime is some of the best shit I have ever heard. I've been listening to it for years and its still the same to me.
    Respects.

I like Boston. Foreplay/Long Time is one I gotta have cranked.

I kinda think I'm the only one in the world who bought their Third Stage album tho.
