Overplayed, today? Maybe 22 years ago, but not on today's radio...

I bought the single for "More Than A Feeling" in November of 1976 on vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, followed with "Long Time" and "Peace of Mind" in early 1977. Probably the first singles where I really liked the B-sides, too ("Smokin'", "Let Me Take You Home Tonight", "Foreplay"). At some point I heard the long versions of the songs and also, looking at the album, saw that "Foreplay" and "Long Time" went together (which somehow I would put together using my cheapo Radio Shack monaural cassette player - wasn't too bad, actually) and so with all that information broke down and bought the complete album. Don't Look Back didn't bowl me over quite as much, though the title track is probably my favourite Boston song. Third Stage was a disappointment after waiting 8 years, though it's grown on me over the years to where I really enjoy it. Can't get into Walk On still and never got brave enough to pick up Corporate America. Still, that initial splash can't be denied - great music and I also could stare at the album covers for awhile!
I'm in the same boat as billy regarding their albums. Boston's first is not only their undisputed best, but is a true 70's rock classic that holds many memories of my teenage life. "Don't look back" was decent but not like "Boston" in which aLL songs are great. Then came Third Stage. Except for a few songs (Amanda & Cool the Engines) it wasn't really one I'd choose to listen to all the way through, until I seen that tour. It's funny how going to see a band performing "new stuff" life gives one a new perspective on the material. They did the whole Third Stage Album live and in order of album track listing.

BTW, Sammy Hagar's pre-Van Halen guitarist, Gary Phil, was with Boston on that tour.

You want a good listen , Get "Corporate America", Boston's latest album. I got the CD and saw the tour. The song " I had a good time" is dynamite and a little acoustic diddy by the bassist Kim Dahme is really good. A different album but it has that sonic sound that is Boston. Good band to see live.

Corporate America wasn't a Boston album by any stretch of the imagination, with the exception of the two songs that Brad Delp actually sang on.

    No Delp, No Boston. period.

I've always thought "Smokin'" had by far the coolest organ solo I've ever heard! Only a couple by Jon Lord of Deep Purple have I liked as much.

I respectfully disagree, and as far as the band no Tom Scholz, no Boston.

BOSTON - "Once Upon A Time"
Long Beach Arena, California, October 16, 1977
    FM Broadcast

    ------

    01. Rock'n'Roll Band
    02. Help Me
    03. More Than A Feeling
    04. It Isn't Easy
    05. A Man I'll Never Be
    06. Smokin'
    07. Peace Of Mind
    08. Foreplay
    09. Long Time

There are better Long Beach boots available.

Ripped off from the KBFH or another boot. Pretty boring. Kind of cheap.

This is the common broadcast of the KBFH, so naturally it is missing a few songs including "Television Poitician" and "Guitar Solo/This Time". But still, this is a killer concert!

Same sound quality as most of the other Long Beach boots. The problem with this one is the sloppy editing.

I missed the Boston craze in the 70's (hey I was 8 when their debut album hit) but I do remember seeing the T-shirts everywhere. I got into them in 1985 and eagerly awaited their "Third Stage" album. I thought it was fantastic and I went to go see them at the Worcester Centrum in Massachusetts (7th show of a record 9 straight.) It was the most amazing sounding concert that I've ever been to. These guys definitely made the tickets worth their money.

While Eddie is my all-time favorite guitar player, I've always said that Tom Scholz had the best SOUNDING guitars of all-time. My favorites are "Hitch A Ride" (awesome solo at the end of the song), "More Than A Feeling" and "Piece of Mind."

Don't hold your breath. 30 years later, and I can't remember ever seeing a single Boston video. Don't recall any live TV appearances either (although the Delp/Goudreau spinoff group RTZ did the ABC "In Concert" series a while back)

So it would seem that the band, or at least Tom Scholz, really hates cameras. Ironic, for a guy who reportedly invented the Polaroid One Step.

I just got an e-mail from a fellow Boston fan who was at Bike week in Daytona and saw "Boston" play on the beach. She said it was a great show. Good news.
