    Amp ?

I just got my Marshall head back, after a friend dropped it , It had to be fixed.

This thing now sounds amazing , it sounded good before , but it was a differnt kind of distortion. Before it had a more gainy, kinda sustaining sound to the leads and chords sounded really good.

Now this thing has a more clean overdrive to it, it is nailing the VH II album, but the leads don't have that singing kind of sustain anymore, BUT the rythm sound is awesome.

Did EVh use anything on his lead tone, other than the normal phase and flange at times, but anything that would drive the leads more than the rytyhm sound?

Or should my amp have both, which I almost don' see possible, but just curious.

i don't know if this helps you or not but he uses delay and chorus quite a bit.although that has changed on more recent albums.

Default Ed's leads come from generous use of the...

    volume knob.
You know the best tone I ever had was with that little bandmaster cranked to 10. Edward Van Halen, 1980, Guitar Player Magazine.
