Sounds good, even though mick sounds a little weird in spots. I’m glad It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll ended up with the songs it did. It is one of my favourites from the Stones

I like Goat's Head better, but IORNR was an album that got a lot of love, growing up.

Lot's of good tunes all over that one.

Agreed on the Drift Away cover, shows the limits to Jagger's voice.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I think "Drift Away" would've been a mistake because it was a current song at the time, or close to it. Plus they didn't change it up that much. I've got a Humble Pie live album where they pay "tribute" to The Who and the Stones by playing "Honky Tonk Women" and "Won't Get Fooled Again." Seems like "Jumpin' Jack Flash" is in there, too. Anyway, I think it lowers Humble Pie to look like "fans" of their direct peers, even if those peers played to 18,000 while they played to 3,000. Same for the Stones covering this one. Interesting choice and nice execution, though.

another song from that era that is fairly lost to history is "Through The Lonely Nights", which was the b-side to "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)". I think the only CD issue was on the massive singles set they did for the RSR singles.

    Such a great tune.

I read that it was one of the rare times, Keith played in Standard tuning.

Beyond that...the Stones are making sure they play one different deep cut for every show they play, and they’re letting the fans vote for which one they wanna hear (out of a 4 choice vote per show).

How cool is that. Sigh. If only VH could ever do such a thing. But no.

They’ve been doing song votes for each show since ‘94.

I think both guys used open G.

Keith used another tuning for Street Fighting Man or Jumpin' Jack Flash.

Some guy had a tele in open G, and it really is the key to the Stones riffs.
I remember i started playing the intro to "Happy," and it finally sounded correct.

My new cd copy of 'Dirty Work' arrived today. Nostalgia!
I bought the vinyl for my old man, back in the day.

They totally kicked ass last night.
On the top of their game
Charlie held it down real well
Ronnie had a damn good time
Kieth played superb but looked really worn out halfway thru
Mick, after that surgery, wow, full on
Bass player just a regular badass
    Keys all the way
    Backing singers just spot on
They hit the stage at 8:55pm and jammed till about 11pm

No drugs or alcohol on my part
    Kick-Ass night
