It’s sad about Taylor because he was such a bad ass and then just kind of went down that rabbit hole w Keith. Ronnie has a great personality and probably fits better as that middle but Mick Taylor was so good.

I was actually into the Stones in the Taylor era too.
EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

Some deep cuts from the ‘Taylor Era’
The outro...
Soaring solo...
The weave...
"Always hopeful, yet discontent,
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is!"

I just love all these tunes! Classic, underrated gems that should get more love.
100 Years Ago is one of my favorite Stones tunes. Love the lyrics, Billy, fueling the groove...so good.
Time Waits For No One is epic! Such a beautiful melody. That solo is amazing! They shoulda credited him for stuff like this.
Loving Cup is so Stones. More influence from Billy here. That infusion of gospel really ignited them during this record.

GHS, IORR, Black and Blue...they don't get the love Beggar's thru Exile get, but I think they are awesome none the less.
Chock full of great tunes!

Was watching their South America documentary on Netflix and it was great to see how that culture embraces them

I saw that. It makes sense because to many of them The Stones and rock n roll are their only taste of freedom.
"He has a swaggering retro machismo that will give hives to the Steinem cabal" -Camille Paglia on Donald Trump
"But, fucking with Brook is like fucking with hot shit on and ax handle. You just don't get a grip"-track5
"Make way for the bad guy"- Tony Montana
'This hamburger don't need no helper"- David Lee Roth
"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth
"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango
"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

GHS is an awesome record: Dancing with Mr. D, Winter, Star Star, Heartbreaker...
"Heartbreaker" is one of THE greatest Stones tunes of all time.
The wah, the horns, that dirty 70's NYC landscape, the backing vocals...
One of Jagger's greatest vocals & lyrics.
He paints a picture & sings his ass off (Love that line: Her mother said she had
no chance...NO CHANCE!)
And the way he goes off at the end, sounds like he's saying: Pain, pain, put a bullet in his
heart...
Mick Taylor is my favorite co-guitarist, out of all of them.
The Mick Taylor era is just so flawless, his playing just was so incredibly perfect
to whatever the song needed.Graver, Walking Ed, refugee from CVH & proud tone chaser...

I told my brother, who just saw the Stones in Foxboro, that my all time favorite
record is: Let it Bleed.
Physical Graffiti would be number two.
He told me he'd pick a Who record.
Then we debated, and i said, the older i get, the more i believe The Stones were
the greatest of them all, just the way they morphed from blues covers, to original blues,
to pop, to psychedelica, to the sublime 70's with rock, reggae & soul....
I was listening to "Some Girls," and you forget how gorgeous "Beast of Burden" was.
The guitars, the drumming, the singing, it's as soulful as anything classified as classic soul.
Then you hit "Shattered," and they sound like the punks at CBGB's.
I think out of the legends, i'd go: Stones, Zeppelin, The Who.
It used to Be Zep, then the Stones, in my younger days, but now...Graver, Walking Ed, refugee from CVH & proud tone chaser...
