    It's About Time (Revisited)

Okay, so I know most people don't really like any of the new songs, or they are luke warm at best about them, but I had a great experience with this song today.

I listened to it again today while I was in my car, and I mean I really listened to it. It took me back to that fateful day when I heard it for the first time. When we were able to download it from the boards. It made me slightly emotional listening to it and thinking about that night.

I remember sitting in my room watching the screen download and thinking that the 28 minutes were the longest of my life. Since I had never heard *new* Van Halen, it was like I was becoming a man or something like that. Basically, when I finally heard the song I was so excited that VH was finally back together. When I heard the lyrics I was so damn excited for the concert I could hardly wait. It all led to the culmination of the concert nights here in St. Louis, which were two of the greatest nights of my life.

I guess my point is, if you haven't listened to it in awhile, take another listen and REALLY listen, and see what kind of a reaction you have. If you already have, did you have the same experience?
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Oh, I dunno if I would put it quite that way (at least at this site). I'd say a handful of people were not satisfied with IAT. Only a couple more seemed to be turned off by UFB.

But anyway, I took your advice and cued it up after I read your post. I still think the song's about as kick-ass as you can expect from Van Halen. It's no "Humans Being" or "Unchained" but hell.....it's damn good rock song nonetheless.

    I can't listen to "It's About Time" unless it's cranked to 11.

I still have that experience. I was in my science class when I took my friends radio and I put it on Q107 (the station here) and she said in 10 mins we will be playing the new VH song. In about 4 mins she said, "Ok here it is the new song by VH It's About Time". I still get shivers when I hear Sam sing, "Last time wrong time outside outta line.. ughhh, Yea but this times our time right on let it shine" That one line will always take me back to that day May 25 2004 when VH ruled the airwaves once again. I remember looking at my friends, who had no idea who VH was, and giggling and laughing and getting all giddy. Apart from my 5 Star experience that was the other best day of my life.

Damn Sams voice is fuckin awesome in that song. He goes so high when he says, "outta liNE"

I'm happy that so many people enjoyed hearing new VH material. I can remember the feeling of purchasing each album from 1984 to Balance on the day they were released, so I can relate. In particular I remember being a senior in high school and waiting for the damn day to end so I could pick up OU812 on my way home, it was the first one I bought on tape and I couldn't wait to pop it in my car. For myself though, I thought IAT was mediocre at best. Seriously, if that song were on Fair Warning or 5150 would it stand out? Hey, average VH is still better than any other crap on the radio today, I just hope the better stuff is being saved for the next album.

I remember downloading it and seriously saying, when I heard it, "Van Halen is dead." I liked it a bit more when I got beyond the intro, but that intro just made me think "What the hell is EVH doing?!?!" I thought we'd lost another band to nu-metal.

When I first heard "It's About Time", I was over at my friend's house. We had been playing guitar and screwing around for most of the day. He went downstairs, and I got on his computer and started browsing the Links. I saw the link for the IAT download, so I yelled for him to come up. It was taking forever to download, and it finally stalled out. I was looking around, then I found another link and promptly got the song. I started listening and I thought, "Man, what is this? It sounds like Ed's using a BOSS Metal Zone and doing a nu-metal riff!" It didn't help that I was listening on tinny laptop speakers that made it sound that much more like a cheap distortion box. But I thought it was kinda cool nonetheless, and I was just excited to hear a new VH song. I still like the song, even the intro.

I remember getting the link for "It's About Time" off the boards here and at first being unable to download it right. So I sent it to a mate of mine who's a VH fan too and works in IT and he played it over the phone to me and I was like..."Shit, that intro is killer!" It was modern Van Halen to me and it was a great. Later on when I heard "Learning To See" I thought this song was just perfect in every way and how much Eddie's solo just smoked. I had read on the boards here much dislike for "Up For Breakfast" mainly because of the lyrics. When they were posted on here, I said to myself in a positive light, "Yeah I can see that" thinking the music would have a more pop approach to it. When I then first heard the song, that groovy beat to it just got me going "Fuck yeah!" but I just didn't think the lyrics suited the music. I was pretty disappointed but I just said "Well I hope this grows on me."
Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
    Bobby: Who else?
    Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
    Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
    Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

I really am glad that some of you guys like the new songs, but they were just "eh" for me. Don't love them, don't hate them.

Up For Breakfast had the most potential, but the hair metal tribute lyrics ruined it for me. I know that Van Halen writes party songs, but there is a difference between clever and stupid sex lyrics. Finish What Ya Started is clever, Up For Breakfast is stupid. I also am aware that to a lot of the people on these boards the lyrics don't matter much, but they do to me. Hell, "loop da loop, nice white teeth Betty Boop" almost ruins Drop Dead Legs for me and it is only one line!
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I know what you mean about that song. The lyrics reminded me of some
thing like Cherry Pie from Warrant or something.
