Welling and Grace Encounter The Fog
    Source: ComingSoon!
Tom Welling (The WB's Smallville) and Maggie Grace (ABC's Lost) will star in the remake of John Carpenter's classic horror thriller The Fog for Revolution Studios, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Rupert Wainwright is directing the film, which Cooper Layne is penning from the screenplay written by Hill and Carpenter for the original 1980 film.

In the film, there really is something out there in the dark. One hundred years ago, in a thick, eerie fog off the rocky coast of Northern California, a horrible shipwreck occured under mysterious circumstances. Now, shrouded in darkness, the ghosts of the long-dead sailors have returned from their watery graves to exact their bloody, merciless revenge.

Welling will play a local boat owner who never left the town, and Grace will portray a college girl who is back in her hometown for the summer.

Joel Silver on Whedon for Wonder Woman
    Source: ComingSoon!

Sci Fi Wire talked to producer Joel Silver who confirmed that he is trying to sign Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly creator Joss Whedon to write and direct a new Wonder Woman feature.

"I'm trying," Silver said at Wonder-Con in San Francisco on Saturday. "I'm trying to work a deal with Joss... I was just in the other room [where Whedon was talking about his upcoming SF movie, Serenity]. I don't know if I could work that out. It's a complicated deal to do, but I would love him to do it. It would be great if he could do it."

Silver said that Whedon came to him with a new twist on the venerable character.

    A Scanner Darkly Trailer Online
    Source: ComingSoon!

The new trailer for writer/director Richard Linklater's A Scanner Darkly is now online at iFilm. Based on the Philip K. Dick novel, Warner Independent Pictures will release the movie in limited theaters on September 16.

Set in a future world where America has lost the war on drugs, undercover cop Fred (Keanu Reeves) is one of many agents hooked on the popular drug Substance D, which causes its users to develop split personalities. Fred, for instance, is also Bob, a notorious drug dealer. Along with his superior officers, Fred sets up an elaborate scheme to catch Bob and tear down his operation.

Winona Ryder, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, and Rory Cochran filmed the scenes as if it were a traditional live action undertaking, but then Linklater turned the footage into animation, much as he did with Waking Life.

The Live-Action Cast of Charlotte's Web?
    Source: ComingSoon!

Moviehole tells us the site has learned which actors are joining Dakota Fanning for the live-action cast in Paramount's feature adaptation of E.B. White's Charlotte's Web, which is filming in Melbourne for a June 23, 2006 release date.

Siobhan Fallon Hogan, who played Stanley's mother in the recent "Holes", has been enlisted to play Mrs Zuckerman, the 'butter milk bathing' farm-wife. As has Kevin Anderson ("Sleeping with the Enemy"), Gary Basaraba who played officer Ray Hechler in "Boomtown", Essie Davis("The Matrix Revolutions"}, and young actor Nate Mooney ("Elizabethtown").

Julia Roberts will lend her vocals in the lead role of Charlotte A. Cavatica, a spider and heroine of the book who goes out of her way to save Wilbur the pig's life by weaving miraculous words into her webs.

Also providing voices are Oprah Winfrey as Gussy the barn's maternal yet irreverent goose; John Cleese as Samuel the sheep; Steve Buscemi as the barn's sardonic Rat Templeton. Cedric The Entertainer will play opposite Oprah as the other Goose - Golly. Reba McEntire and Kathy Bates will voice the barn's ironic cows; Betsy and Bitsy and Thomas Haden Church will voice Brooks, one of two dimwitted crows opposite Andre Benjamin (Andre 3000) as Elwyn the other crow.

    "Hitch" Bedevils "Constantine"
    Source: E!Online

Over the first three days of Presidents Day weekend, the Will Smith romantic comedy wooed an estimated $31.8 million away from moviegoers--just enough to exorcise Keanu Reeves' demon-happy Constantine, which spirited up $30.5 million.

However, the Warners R-rated stylish horror fantasy had the higher per-screen average, $10,155 from 3,006 locations, compared to $8,895 from 3,575 sites for Sony's PG-13 release.

Smith's matchmaking comedy, which costars Kevin James and Eva Mendes, continues to hook up a broad demographic, grossing $90.1 million in 10 days. Sony estimates the film will pass $100 million before next weekend and eventually gross upward of $150 million.

Fox's PG-rated Because of Winn-Dixie debuted in third place with $10.8 million, according to preliminary studio figures released Sunday. Based on the kiddie book, the family-friendly film stars AnnaSophia Robb as the lonely young girl who finds companionship with the stray dog. It opened in 3,188 sites, where it averaged $3,403. Fox estimates that by the time the holiday weekend ends Monday night, the studio will have earned back the film's modest $14 million production budget.

The weekend's final wide release, New Line's PG-rated Son of the Mask, was far from smokin', opening in fourth with just $7.6 million. With Jamie Kennedy vainly trying to match the shape-shifting skills of Jim Carrey, who starred in 1994's original The Mask, the sequel averaged only $2,588 at 2,966 sites.

The only new limited release was the dysfunctional family story Imaginary Heroes, starring Sigourney Weaver, Jeff Daniels and Emile Hirsch. The R-rated Sony Pictures Classics offering, which had a one-week run in December in a failed bit for Oscar attention, tallied $31,270 at eight sites for an average of $3,909.

Meanwhile, three movies considered hot favorites to nab some statuettes at next Sunday's Oscar ceremonies, remained in the top 10.

Million Dollar Baby rang up $7.1 million in fifth place and has now grossed $54.6 million in 10 weeks of release.

Over the same time frame, The Aviator has earned $88.1 million, including the $4.1 million picked up this weekend in ninth place.

Sideways, which has grossed $58.1 million in 18 weeks, slurped up $3.9 million in the 10 spot.

Final figures will be released Tuesday, but for three days of the four-day holiday, the top 12 movies have grossed $119 million. If estimates hold, this Presidents Day will be the second-best ever.

Here's a rundown of the three-day estimates, per Exhibitor Relations:

    1. Hitch, $31.8 million
    2. Constantine, $30.5 million
    3. Because of Winn-Dixie, $10.8 million
    4. Son of the Mask, $7.6 million
    5. Million Dollar Baby, $7.1 million
    6. Are We There Yet?, $6.5 million
    7. Boogeyman, $5.5 million
    8. Pooh's Heffalump Movie, $4.4 million
    9. The Aviator, $4.1 million
    10. Sideways, $3.9 million

Francis Lawrence helming I Am Legend?
    Source: Moviehole

The once-planned Schwarzenegger headliner "I am Legend" is back on, and according to Dark Horizons, will be happening faster than scavengers are to snag the best buys at a Blockbuster ex-rental sale.

Francis Lawrence, director of this weekend's number.2 money-maker "Constantine", is rumoured to be helming the pic, which is said to be scouting for locations as we speak.

Last year, "Gothika" director Mathieu Kassovitz was rumoured to be captaining the off-course ship.

Kassovitz told Moviehole that Schwarzenegger was no longer being considered for the movie. "We are seeing a lot of different people for it. Unfortunately Arnold can’t do it, because he’s Governor, but he would have been great. A lot of projects in Hollywood get thrown about and never see the sun so here’s hoping this one does happen".

More on this as it comes in.

Time to Boil the Bunny again?
    Source: Moviehole

The only thing worse than finding glass in your cereal? An unnecessary Hollywood retool so early in the day.

According to Contact Music, 1987 Paramount smasheroo "Fatal Attraction" is about to get a rework - sans Michael Douglas and Glenn Close.

Whilst there's no word on who'll stand-in for Douglas's saggy rump yet, the role of psychotic temptress Alex Forrest, played by Close in the original, may go to "Nip Tuck" beauty Kelly Carlson.

"Kelly is definitely top of the wanted list", says an insider.

Next Week, "Wall Street" gets remade?

    The Latest Wild Net Rumours
    Source: DarkHorizons

    The Wretched
Twitch Film reports that this is director Andrew Goth's (Everybody Loves Sunshine) horrific spin on the spaghetti western with - wait for it - Chow Yun Fat cast in the lead role as a bounty hunter. This thing's still in early pre-production but there's no doubt that Goth is going for the full on zombie effect.

    He-Man
Based on word Rope of Silicon has received, apparently Jennifer Garner is currently the frontrunner to play She-Ra in the flick, plus they confirm that rumors of Jason Lewis and Nicolas Cage being involved are false. Shooting is expected to begin before the year is up.

    I Am Legend
Scouting for locations has allegedly begun for the long-awaited adaptation of the sci-fi novel classic. Francis Lawrence ("Constantine") is rumoured to be attached to direct and a start date as early as May 2005 looks possible.

    Terminator 4
A scooper for Freeze Dried Movies says "I'm hearing a Bucharest shoot with Marco B attached to compose T4. It's more of a spin-off than sequel, apparently, with story concentrating on Kyle Reese, from the first film...". The scooper also writes in that Kurt Wimmer ("Ultraviolet", "Equilibrium") may end up directing the film. Movies Online seems to think so to and reveals former Mr. Universe Ralph Moeller may be playing the Terminator.

Cool. The origonal had it's moments but fell short. I still like the origonal, I live in a Northern California coastal community and it captured that aspect well.

A Scanner Darkly is my favorite book, but Keanu Reeves is my least favorite actor. Knowing the story, it's very ironic. I'm just glad it'll be a cartoon so I don't have to see him for real. Anyways, it looks pretty good.

WB Looks Forward to Constantine 2
    Source: ComingSoon!

In the weekend box office report by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. reveals that they're ready to move forward with a sequel to Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz:

Across town at Warners, executives were likewise upbeat about the debut of "Constantine." "Considering that this was an unknown quantity, we're obviously really pleased with the results and look forward to the sequel," president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said. "The exits were excellent, which leads us to conclude that the film will continue to do well," he noted. Co-produced with Village Roadshow, "Constantine" skewed slightly more male with 56% but was equally balanced in the age demographic with a 50-50 ratio of those older and younger than 25.

Constantine opened to a solid $34.6 million, according to estimates, for the four-day President's Day holiday weekend. It was the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film during any four-day holiday frame, and it was a company best for WB for the President's Day weekend.

After a smash start last week in Asia, the film also successfully launched into Europe, earning $3.8 million in Germany, $3.6 million in France, and $2.7 million in Spain. With strong holdovers in Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong, Constantine collected $15.5 million from 10 markets this weekend for an estimated total to date of $30.7 million internationally.
