Default Your Most Played Out Van Halen Tunes

You know the type. They're few and far between, but almost everybody's got one or two. No, I'm not talking about the songs you don't like. I'm talking about the tunes that just have been processed too many times by your tired old temporal lobes. The kinda tunes, amazing as it is, that you could easily spend the rest of your life without ever hearing again and not be too terribly upset about it. Drastic assertion when we're talking our favorite muzak, but come on...even Zeppelin's got a Coda, ya know?

You know how it is when a Halen tune comes on the radio, because you're such a diehard and you honor the band as you do, even if you've fucking played the same album the song's on a dozen times that week, it don't matter, you gotta give the respect and not change the channel. Uh uh, jack, you gotta crank it up, because Van Halen on the airwaves is too rare these days.

What I'm talking about is the few songs that don't get this right of legacy. Yep, the few songs that always get the Skip Button. Again, I'm not talking about the songs you don't like, only the songs you absolutely positively just can't listen to anymore. That is, if you have any.

I haven't purposefully sought out these tracks in several years, unless they were live or warbling over somebody else's system. Just got washed out.

    Running with the Devil
    Jamie's Crying
    Pretty Woman
    Jump
    When it's Love
    Right Now

Especially Jump. Fucking Jump. That damned canker sore Jump. That blue-balled red-headed pus-filled slime-ridden ridiculous excuse for a Dave tune, old "Half the Girls in this Arena are Waiting to Hear the One Song They Know" Jump.

By the way...did I mention I've heard Jump a bit too much?

Without a doubt, if I never heard Poundcake again, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I guess there was a time when I really loved this song, but can't say that anymore. Nails on a chalkboard, nails on a chalkboard.

This is a hard question to answer. Poundcake for sure is a song I have heard just a few too many times, as is Devil and others, but I go for awhile without hearing them and I catch it on the radio or at a buddy's house and I'm reminded of how good the song actually is and get back into it.

The reason why I even have a list is because of DJs. I've heard "Runnin' With The Devil" more than my own name.
    Others include:
    You Really Got Me.
    Jump.
    Panama.
    Finish What You Started.
    Runaround.
Top of the World used to be there...but it's so rare to hear on the radio anymore that it may get the mercy of my "Skip Finger".
Dancing in the Street and (Oh) Pretty Woman are just about there.
And Can't Stop Loving You got there a lot faster than some of the other ones.

A list of songs that sometimes get skipped that ISN'T the fault of DJ poison includes:
    Intruder
    1984
    I'll Wait
    Inside
    Get Up
    Apolitical Blues
    Amsterdam
    Big Fat Money
    Strung Out
    Doin' Time
    Dirty Water Dog
    Primary (maybe)
    Ballot or the Bullet
    How Many Say I

When I say DJ-ruined, I'm talking about great songs that have been played so much that they are now like annoying drones that garner no reaction from your ear.
    Example:
KISS--Rock and Roll All Nite. Great song...I'll never listen to it again as long as I live. KISS has 22 albums and have sold more than 37 million copies and yet only one song ever gets played. It's to the point that if I'm ever in the car and hear, "Detroit Rock City" I'll probably have a coronary and cause the death of dozens. There's a ton of great KISS songs but the radio-listening public thinks of them on the same level as one-hit wonders like Gary Glitter and Right Said Fred.

This destructive and deadly DJ poison has tainted the likes of "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Sweet Child of Mine", "Enter Sandman", and "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

I don't own a Pink Floyd CD. Why? Because I don't need to; I hear Pink Floyd every single day of my life relentlessly on the radio.

    The same goes for Boston.

    BOSTON!?

    Boston.

Every Friday at 5:00 PM, seven billion radio stations are playing, "Born to Run". Classic rock stations. Sountry stations. Rap stations. Classical and Opera stations. The Spanish station.
    Yuck.
I'd rather spit blood from my eyes than to listen to "Born to Run" one more time.

I'd love for every DJ in the country to realize that Van Halen released albums other than I and 1984. It's like if there aren't numbers in the title of the album, DJs won't play it.
I'll tell ya, on the rare occasion that it's 3:30 AM and some rogue DJ is risking his job by playing "Everybody Wants Some!!" I have to change my skivies afterward.

Would it kill them to play "Women in Love...", "Mean Street", or "Black and Blue" once a millennium?

I would love my epitaph to read, "Was driving down the road when some insubordinate DJ played, 'Drop Dead Legs' and caused him to drive off a cliff" but it will never happen. Instead, it will probably read, "Heard 'More Than a Feeling' one too many times and jammed a meat thermometer in his ear."

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Jump, Panama, and Hot for Teacher, it now takes me like 20 min. to listen to 1984 cause I skip those songs. Others are RWTD, Dance the Night Away, ...And the Cradle Will Rock, Best of Both Worlds, FWYS, Pretty Woman, and Right Now.

Hey! Hey Hey!....I gotta go with Aint talkin bout love here.
I used to love it when it came out and many years later. Mainly because of the intro with that "Big and Fat Flange" tone. It's a easy and cheesy 3 chord wonder. (well a few more chords at the end) I've heard that one thousands of times and it was on our set list for years.
You know, I never could get that EXACT tone on the intro. Got it in the ball park but never nailed it.
