Default Who the F$#ck is Eddie Van Halen?

Where do you start. I come here everyday for reasons I don't even know. Van Halen has been a part of my life, and still is. It was awesome to see Ed in 2004 but in many ways it was dissapointing. His playing flat out sucked. The solo I witnessed to this day leaves me wondering what the fuck was that. All the boots I have heard from 2004 leaves me with the same feeling. The 98' shows that I have rock my fucking world, thats what pisses me off. I want Ed and I want him full fucking throttle. No sloppy, lazy, bullshit we put up with in 2004. Ed, if you lost it I apologize. Anything else is not acceptable.

He toured in 2004, made new music.

    I'm satisfied.

Both have points...here is my analogy...

The tour and new music was the equivalent of not having sex at all for like 8 years and then finally getting laid by a bearded 300 lb fatty. You are like yes, thank god I got some, and worship that action, but later you might see some of the problems that came with it... like the sores, or in this case "up for breakfast" and some sloppy ass playing.

The shows I saw in Vegas and LA were full throttle. Sloppy lazy bullshit is not what I experienced. Sorry he didn't meet your expectations.

you know, I saw them in Phoenix and the first night in Tucson (from the front row). The Phoenix show was the best i have even seen them play (I've seen every show in phoenix since the 0U812 tour) and the tucson show was great after the first 4 songs (I think Ed was real nervous. Then he settled down) Now I admit that his solos were NOWHERE near what he's done before technically, but to me he just looked bored with doing eruption, cathedral, spanish fly, mean streets etc, and who can blame him. He tried something different and fell on his ass but thats ok. I can tell you that the biggest dissapointment was that I finally got to see him from 2 feet away and he was so drunk that he could barely stand. but what should we expect? Eddie is who he is. I really think that part of the reason he has never really gotten help is becasue guys like you and me put him on this pedestal. I think he feels above it all sometimes, and no matter how he behaves he will always be "god". I really hope Ed gets help but I think we all know he is gone. It's real sad.

At the risk of raising my EVH apologist head of the hydra, I've heard enough of the boots. He missed a few chords here and there. Big deal. Live shows. The man's fifty years of age. And having recent personal problems. Still Eddie Van Fucking Halen, not Mick Mars nor Dave Navarro.

WTF is the deal with the reverence for the 3 tour, anyway? Ed's been ON every damn tour he's ever done for the most part, except for a handful of shows last year, and even that's subjective. I suppose it's cause 3's the most recent comparison? Or is 'cause a lot of young'uns have only seen the 3 tour in the Halen touragraphy? Kids these days. Heh.

Ya know, recently a buddy of mine scored me the Toronto PPV Balance boot. Man, I really forgot what a great tour that was. Ed was tight. Don't Tell Me live was bitchin'. Classically underrated Halen outing, that tour.

    Perfect analogy

Gee, I wish my playing sucked as bad as Eddie's

In Pittsburgh, Eddie's playing was inspired and precise

i think the 3 tour is often brought up because for the first time in years, they were able to play old songs. nothing showcases ed's playing better than i'm the one, romeo delight, etc.

You know dude I felt the same way until I seen the show on 9/11 in Ft Laud Fl....I must say you can ask anyone who was there he was so on his "A" game it was not even funny!!!!!!!!
Im telling you he was SO ON!! I seen the show 3 times prior to that one
and what a diffrence! I was not alone on this either..Others from here that were there were an awwww as well! I guess point being made here when Ed wants to play he will play...What sucks is the fans get burned when they pay the $90 or so dollars to see the MAN and the rest of the boys and it sounds like shit!! Peace to all.

    Default Jimmy Paige's Syndrome

Perhaps Ed's uneven playing touring night-to-night is the result fo the classic guitar-god disease known as Jimmy Paige's Syndrome cause by the onset of this:

I saw VH early on in the tour and enjoyed both shows. Yes, Ed did stray a little from playing the solos note for note. In his defense, he has been playing those songs for 10 to 25 years now. So what if he decides to play them differently. I admit, I have not listened to the bootlegs to really see if his playing was sloppy or just different. Honestly, I was glad to see them back.
