on the one hand, there is no wrong answer.

vh and vh2 were certainly great together. vh was so ground breaking and vh2 was an even better follow up.

diver down and 1984 showed the band, with roth, at its commercial best, while 1984 and 5150 really proved to be the commercial best and showed great direction in the band's music and tours.

5150 and OU812 soldified the hagar era and pushed the band further into the mainstream.

OU812 and FUCK rocked and brought the band fully to MTV.

FUCK and BALANCE demonstrated the band's longevity.

BALANCE and III, are the weakest link. goodbye.

on the other hand, wocf and fairwarning provide the foundation for all that followed and realized the grandure of what came before it. simply put, the was never better on album and on tour.

I agree with the votes for 1984 and 5150. Every Roth era record was awesome with the exception of Diver Down. 1984 was their best effort with the exception of VH (opinion). To lose Roth and produce a record like 5150 with Hagar was unbelievable. Look at the songs: Panama, Jump, Drop Dead Legs, Hot for Teacher, WCTBL, Dreams, Summer Nights, BOBW. What a two record run. And, with two different singers. Awesome baby.

I'd say 1984/5150 as the first choice, and F.U.C.K./Balance as the second.
With the later combination debutting at #1 without really relying to much on ballads.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman
