    Default The Da Vinci Code

I had started a similar thread just a few days before we lost the old forum, so obviously it's gone. I decided to wait until I read the actual book before I started a new one. I just finished it a couple of days ago. Its a great book. Much of the factual information in the book is knowledge that I already possessed due to my own independent research, but I still enjoyed the book based on the great plot and how well it was written. I'll probably pick up a few other Dan Brown books based on my enjoyment from reading this one.

Anyway, use this thread to talk about the book and/or the theories put forth by the novel. I think both would be an enjoyable discussion.

Try "Angels & Demons"...its sort of the "prequel" to DaVinci Code. As for DaVinci Code...AWESOME book. The only other book to inspire me to research related stuff this much was "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking.

As we mentioned before, the cradle of the feminine is a likely explanation for the myth of the Holy Grail.

All of us are subject to, and products of, that typical patriarchal hoodoo when it comes to historical logistics.

I'd really like to hear from any devout Christians on this subject. I'm curious to how they feel about it.

The history of Christianity is something that's always intrigued me. Modern Christianity is certainly not how it was intended to be. That Constantine was a clever guy.

I read Angels & Demons first, and then my wife got me the illustrated Da Vinci Code for Christmas. Enjoyed them both, but I actually liked Angels & Demons better.

Don't know about Tom Hanks as Langdon though, for the movie. What do you guys think?

For a while it was hard not to note the world reaction from the traditionally faithful, especially the theories about The Man's bloodline and such. What will present from diehard Van Halen fans mired deep within classic Christian dogma, one can only guess.

It's kind of neat in the DaVacini Code how he goes from a non-religous point of veiw back towards a religous one. Anybody else notice that.

I just finished it as well and really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading Brown's other books. Unfortunately I began to book after I heard Hanks would play Langdon...so he is who I pictured.
As for a religous point of view- I am Quaker and found it all very interesting and it really gave me a lot to think about. I am always questioning basic beliefs and looking for fresh view points. I am interested to see how my wife sees it...she was raised in a VERY conservative Baptist family, but has since moved in a more liberal direction.

Take a look at this (be sure to maximize the size):

    http://images.fbrtech.com/dnew/Italy...rds/Milan1.jpg

The person to Jesus' right looks like a woman... in the book it theorizes that the woman is Mary Magdalene, Jesus' wife, and his lineage was hidden through the ages by secret societies.

I used to find this all interesting, until a year ago or so when it was discovered that the Holy Blood, Holy Grail authors were duped by a con artist - 'Pierre Plantard' (he hinted to the authors that he was a direct descendant of the Merovingian Kings and Jesus).

Bart: Who the hell is this?
Jack Bauer: I’m Jack Bauer, who the hell is this?
Bart: Me, er… I’m Ahmed Adudi
Jack: Chloe, get me all you can on Ahmed Adudi… Does anyone there know Ahmed Adudi?
Chloe O’Brien: Ahmed Adudi; wealthy Saudi financier… Disappeared into Afghanistan in the late 90s…
    Jack: … Really?
Chloe (ironically): No Jack it’s a joke name, you’re being set up.
    Jack: DAMMIT!

Got that right! Question is, how is it supposed to be? Too deep a question for me to answer.

The characters and plot are fiction. All of the paintings, documents, secret societies and ancient rituals talked about in the book are real, however. The theories presented in the book have also been around for centuries.

I just read the book. The storyline is fiction but the research it is based on is supposedly fact.
I thought Harrison Ford was gonna play Langdon? It says so right in the book!

The basic premise of the theories presented in the book is that Jesus Christ had a child with Mary Magdalene. It is said that his lineage--The Merovingian bloodline--and possibly even the tomb of Mary Magdalene (the Holy Grail) have been protected throughout the years by a secret society known as the Priory of Sion. Leonardo Da Vinci was supposedly a member of the Priory, and many think he left clues to the identity of the Grail in many of his paintings.

    It goes pretty deep.
