    David Lee Roth

What's up with David Lee Roth? Did he quit the music business to become an EMT or not? A couple months ago I read he was trying a new career as an EMT. Then I read he did a show on New Year's Eve. Just wondering.

It's my understanding that Dave's just doing the EMT thing to do it....not a career change. He's got the time and the desire, so he's giving something back. He seems like a bit of a "knowledge sponge", so it's just one more thing he can add to his resume'.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Yeah Dave is half way through his EMT training in NYC.

Being a famous multimillionare has it's perks, however, such as taking time off from the training, doing shows now and then and guest hosting radio shows...he does what he wants when he wants...

Like Dave said once on David Letterman...."It's good work if you can get it."

I agree, Dave is doing the EMT stuff because he wants to. In fact he talks about his father and other relatives that were in the medical field.

    It's good experience

Just in case he gets back in Van Halen and needs to perform CPR on the guitarist who has gone into an alcohol-related shock or the drummer throws his back out.

    I couldn't resist!

You know, I really think Dave's music career is done. His last album sucked royally and he is on one of the crappiest labels out there. A friend of mine is a die-hard DLR fan and even he's gievn up on Dave.

If he likes that new job better than acting on stage, let him do whatever he wants.

Roth is volunteering as an EMT, and extenuation of his pre-Van Halen interests. He was in fact once an orderly in one of L.A.'s nastiest trauma-centers while attending community college, and his father was a surgeon.

    Dave emt

You know...Ive been pretty rough on Dave in these posts at times, but Kudos to him for taking that training....it takes a special kind of person to work in the medical field. In April of 99 I was in a serious car accident and was almost killed....broke both legs...was in the hospital for 6 weeks and spent a year in pt....and there were a lot of great people that helped me through that time. I couldnt even roll over in bed on my own...I have tremendous respect for those in the medical field. Go Dave!

He lost the desire for the music business 10 years ago. He isn't the first and won't be the last musician to make his money and say "ah, fuck it". He was pretty much on the road as a rock musician for almost twenty years and probably got sick of doing it.

I love his music and wish he would release more product and tour more often, but I can perfectly understand wanting to stay in bed with the Dahm triplets over going out on tour and playing to 1,000 seat clubs. He has been on top of the music world and there is really no chance that he will ever be there again as a solo artist, and probably not even if he re-joined VH. So why bother? He just does it when he feels like it. I don't think he ever created music out of the pure love of it like Ed, to Dave it's just a job.
