Hey...I live in Reno. You said you were coming to Reno in April? South Tahoe is about a 1 hour drive from Reno (Take South 395 until you get just outside of Carson City...then go 50 West until you hit South Tahoe). Harvey's (where Tahoe Wabo is) is right in the heart of downtown South Tahoe...you can't miss it!! It is directly across from Harrah's (the two tallest casino's there) and there is an underground walkway that connects the two casino's. Once you get into Harvey's just ask around...it's a bit hard to find if you don't know where the escelator is to get to it. But you'll find it. They have great Waboritas and Margaritas. Another cool bar to hit while you're there is Stone Street Bar and Grill in Ceaser's Tahoe. It's right in the same vicinity as Harrah's and Harvey's.

If you want to know some cool places to hang out in Reno....just let me know!

I'm going to Sammy's shows there at the end of April. I guess they are in the South Shore Room...so this is different than the Cantina itself?

Yeah...the South Shore Room is upstairs...still in Harvey's though. I had the impression that they would be able to play concerts in the cantina itself...until I was the stage!! It's basically the corner of the bar area. Cool if you're not plugged in...but probably deafening otherwise. The bar can probably only fit about 50-60 people. But the South Shore Room is a nice intimate venue.

    Speakin' of Tahoe Wabo...

Just got back from 3 days of snow and business in the Sierra Nevada. My bones are sore...haven't snowboarded in a while, but managed some dicey amateur black diamond action at Mt. Rose and Heavenly, fair enough for an old man like myself.

Stayed on the 17th floor at Harvey's. Hung out at Tahoe Wabo. A little too much, in fact. They had a Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras thing going, and I indulged in one too many Waboritas. So did a few collegiates around us. It's a cool little joint, a little hidden away downstairs, and the original deal in Cabo still trumps it by far. It's small. But cool. Lots of Sammy tribute goin' on. Merchandise a bit lacking, IMO. A sweet signed Monsters of Rock Godzilla axe in the pool room.

Anyway, cool beans overall. Even bought a set of commemorative Sammy - Dave chips for kicks (there were 5 different Sammy chips in different denominations, they only had one type of Roth's left). In my drunken tequila'd state, spent all the special chips except the $25 Dave and a $5 Cabo Wabo. Saved 'em for posterity. What, I'm gonna take home a hundred dollar Red Rocker chip for a souvenir? Nah. Didn't matter, the house took it back from me anyway. Craps tables weren't nice to me this time out.

Going back for Cinco de Mayo and the Wabos in late April. I love Tahoe. Blue and green serenity. Oh yeah.

You'll like it. Many have complained about the mexican food, but since I'm highly critical of it myself (being Mexican-American), I found it to be outstanding and the prices being very reasonable. We didn't have to wait more than 10-15 minutes for a table the 2 nights we ate there. Solo Hagar and VH material, both audio and video, are constantly played. But, from what I understand, this is the only time of year this happens. The rest of the year, you'll hear anything from The Bee-Gee's to Deep Purple to Linkin Park to whoever played over the soundsystem.

The merchandise is decent. You might be able to find some of the same stuff online via www.fanfire.com at a much cheaper rate. Personally, I found pretty much everything to be overpriced. Bottles of CWT are sold in the merchandise area as well, but they are very expen$ive! Unless you absolutely have to have it, and there aren't any stores in your area that carry it, try not to buy it. Many of us thought it was pretty sad that we could buy the same CWT at Von's for $49.99. Big sellers tended to be Sammy's signature line of sunglasses.

The nicest item I bought there was a grey pullover hooded sweatshirt with the Cabo Wabo logo on the front and back. I think it was priced around $50 or $60, but since I hadn't seen this offered anywhere else, I grabbed it while I could. The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that since it was opening weekend of the Cantina, no t-shirts commemorating this event had been designed for sale, much like the ones Sam has in Cabo each year for his Mexican Meltdowns and B'day Bashes.

The South Shore Room is the "largest" small venue I've seen Sammy play in. I liked it a lot. It's small enough for that intimate feel, but large enough to where you'll have plenty of elbow room. The acoustics are great, too. I honestly thought it kicked the shit out of The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. A word of advice, though: people ("REDHeads", Sam's fanbase) start lining up outside the venue to get their prime spot for the show as early as 9 or 10 am. I didn't see the point of wasting 3 days standing in line for a concert while in a nice town like Tahoe, so I didn't partake in that.

And, located just to the right of that line of REDHeads, is a small bar and stage area where Sam was doing radio interviews for a few hours last year. Who knows, he might just do the same again. In between interviews, he'd walk over to the side of the stage, bullshit with the fans, take pictures, and sign damn near anything that was thrust at him.

The band, minus Sam, is pretty accessible. My wife and I accidentally ran into Mona last year as we exited our car in the hotel's parking lot our first day there. Security at the show was good, and I don't remember seeing anyone getting bounced or manhandled. Oh, and the go-go girls dancing during Sam's sets are a nice distraction!

    Have a great time!

I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."
