    The Latest Genre Film Talk
    Source: DarkHorizons

    Battle of Red Cliff

John Woo just made another trip to Beijing for the preproduction of US$ 50 million historical drama. During his staying in the city, Woo talked to screenwriter Zou Jingzhi, cinematographer Gu Changwei ("Farewell My Concubine"), costume and production designer Tim Yip ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"), according to Chinese paper Nanfang Daily. Dong Ping, the president of Beijing based Asian Union Film and Media, has assured that Chow Yun-Fat and Jet Li would be in the project. The script will be done in March and the shooting might begin by the end of this year.

    Inglorious Bastards
According to the HSX, Quentin Tarantino has penned parts for both Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis in his upcoming war epic "Inglorious Bastards". Attached already are Adam Sandler, Michael Madsen and Bo Svenson. Miramax will distribute the film which revolves around a group of disgraced U.S. soldiers during WW2 who manage to escape the execution squad by going on a daring mission to help the Allies in the fight against the Nazis.

    Predator Prequel

LatinoReview had a first time scooper 'From a Santa Monica Office' tell them the following: "Twentieth Century Fox are in talks with John McTiernan to do a new "Predator" film - not a sequel, not a remake, not a prequel, more of a restart. There's talk that it might fix on Dutch's (Arnie in the first film) grown-up commando kid. John Cena's (one of Vince McMahon's kids) name has been branded about for the lead - but it's early days. They apparently want to coax McT away from "The Thomas Crown Affair" sequel, have offered him this hoping it'll do trick"

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4

A subtle update mad just in the last fortnight on the official TMNT site's FAQs page asks what's going on with a fourth movie: "We're currently working with a studio on a new film. If we can come to an agreement on the script and they can find a distributor for the movie (neither of which are guaranteed), we hope to have a new movie in theaters in 2007."

The Last Voyage of the Demeter

Freeze Dried Movies received a scoop with confirmation that both Val Kilmer and Adrien Brody could both have major roles in Sony's upcoming horror thriller "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" being directed by Robert Schwentke. 'Demeter' is about the ship that carried Dracula's coffin from Transylvania to England."

    X-Men 3

Down in Australia to promote "Hide and Seek" and quickly visiting friend Bryan Singer, Famke Janssen revealed on the "Today" show that she has just finished working on the third season of "Nip/Tuck" and her next project will indeed be "X3".

Big Casting & Spin-Off TV News
    Source: DarkHorizons

Some interesting "Alias" casting-related news went up yesterday, and now several other high-profile shows are looking to restock their people and potentially move into new territory. Here's the latest goss, most of it thanks to a chat the lovely Kristin gave at E! Online:

    Desperate Housewives (SPOILERS AHEAD)

It looks like one of the more talked about rumours of the show in recent weeks is about to finally be revealed. Boston-area radio station WXLO 104.5 FM announced this morning that the rumored gay character will be troubled teen Andrew van de Kamp (Shawn Pyfrom), son of obsessively uptight Bree van der Kamp (Marcia Cross). Whilst who'll turn out gay is still being debated, the situation is not - someone will discover the two guys (one regular/one guest star) going at it in a pool. Also, in the next couple weeks, Susan discovers one of Mike's secrets not long before he becomes a suspect in the recent homicide, and Tom's secret gets revealed. Finally, show creator Mark Cherry is apparently considering some sort of spin-off of the series.

    Lost (SPOILERS AHEAD)

The death of one of the main fourteen characters will be happening in the next few episodes but for now it's unsure as to who it is, even the cast isn't in the know. Maggie Grace (who plays Shannon) says "You'll see more of the connections between the characters and their pasts, and where our lives intersected before the plane crash." One of them apparently will be Sawyer having something to do with Jack's reason for trekking to Australia.

    The O.C. (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Kristin says "Supposedly Marissa's little sis is getting a spinoff. Kaitlin Cooper, who conveniently disappeared at some point last season, is coming back to Newport in the not-so-distant future with hopes of launching her own series depicting the struggles of boarding school. With any luck, she'll take big sis with her!". Meanwhile in regard to OC, an upcoming ep has a man named Lance (Johnny Messner) dropping by Newport, threatening to spill something that Julie doesn't need publicized. Messner says "Julie's got skeletons of the Paris Hilton sex tape sort." Also, look for the return of Ryan's bro, whom we haven't seen since early season one, before Spring.

    Charmed

Billy Zane begins a guest appearance arc on Charmed shortly, then they'll return to reruns for several weeks, before coming back on April 10 for their 150th episode (with Julian McMahon). General word is they're going to pull the plug for good not long after that.

    Stargate

Beau Bridges and Louis Gossett Jr. are joining the cast of "Stargate SG-1", the longest running sci-fi drama on television, for its upcoming ninth season says The Sci-Fi Channel. Bridges plays General Hank Landry, the new head of Stargate Command afterJack O'Neill is promoted. Bridges will also cross over to appear in a few episodes of "Stargate Atlantis". Gossett will have a recurring role as a Jaffa leader who vies with Teal'c for political control of the new Jaffa nation. The pair join the already cast Ben Browder as Lieutenant Colonel Cameron Mitchell. Mitch Pileggi (Skinner on "The X-Files") is joining the cast of "Stargate Atlantis" as a hard-nosed colonel who butts heads with Dr. Weir.

    North Shore

Is it coming back? Kristin says "Don't hold your breath. I'm told it's done. And Amanda Righetti was just cast on an upcoming Fox drama titled Reunion".

Fox Blinks in July 4th Fight
    Source: DarkHorizons

Even before they aired their Superbowl commercials, "Batman Begins" and "War of the Worlds" have been shaping up to be the biggest movies of the Summer season (SW3 earning the most is a given really). In an all too-crowded Summer slate, the June 17th weekend has been left all alone for the Caped Crusader to take audiences. "War of the Worlds" on the other hand was going head on with Fox's "Fantastic Four" comic book adaptation for the July 4th holiday weekend.

Now it seems Fox has backed off according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Murdoch-owned studio has shifted its schedule and pushed FF back a week to a July 8th release date, giving up the profitable holiday in favour of the following week which oddly enough is even more competitive with the Nicole Kidman/Will Ferrell comedy "Bewitched" and Kate Hudson thriller "Skeleton Key" both debuting in that position. Fox has decided to release the African-American coming of age story "Roll Bounce" in the July 1st slot, the small drama seen as counter-programming to the Spielberg sci-fi epic.

This isn't the only big move that's happened in the last day or two. Jim Carrey comedy "Fun with Dick and Jane" has left its June 24th position and been delayed a full six months to a December 21st post - Sony positioning it as a holiday comedy rather than a Summer one. This puts it head to head with "The Producers" remake and Jennifer Aniston/Kevin Costner comedy "Rumor Has It".

The Summer schedule has now eased up a little with better spacing between titles. However four weekends are still looking mighty crammed at the moment with May 6th, July 15th, July 29th and August 5th all seeing four or more major releases per week getting wide debuts. The biggest battle left at the moment looks like a fight between Ridley Scott's Crusades epic "Kingdom of Heaven", Jane Fonda/J-Lo comedy "Monster-in-Law" and the sci-fi comedy "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Expect more release date shifts soon.

Willis Plans Fall Die Hard 4.0 Shoot
    Source: ComingSoon!

While doing the promo rounds for his new action thriller Hostage in London, Bruce Willis told the BBC that a fourth "Die Hard" movie is moving ahead.

"'Die Hard 4.0' is being written as we speak, and if all goes well we'll be shooting it in Autumn on the east coast of the United States."

As he previously said, he added that "John McClane has retired as a cop, and that's all that Fox have allowed me to tell you about it."

    Paramount Discovers A Treasure's Trove
    Source: ComingSoon!

Paramount has bought feature rights to Michael Stadther's bestselling children's book A Treasure's Trove and has set it up at Cruise/Wagner.

"Trove," which Stadther self-published in November, has caused a sensation over the clues in the book that lead to a dozen gold tokens hidden in public places in the U.S. and are redeemable for jewels worth a total of $1 million. The author hid the tokens himself and insists they can be accessed without digging, moving or disturbing objects or structures.

Stadther's book, whose full title is "A Treasure's Trove: A Fairy Tale About Real Treasure for Parents and Children of All Ages," revolves around 12 forest creatures who employ a woodcarver, his half-elf wife and their winged pet to save their friends who disappear after being crystallized by falling dust.

The Amazing Race is All in the Family
    Source: ComingSoon!

CBS has greenlit two more installments of reality series The Amazing Race for next season, but there's a twist, says Variety.

The eighth season of the Bert van Munster/Jerry Bruckheimer-produced "Race" will be an all-family edition, with teams made up of four relatives -- rather than the usual two-person combos -- competing against each other.

Producers are using a liberal definition of "family" to include both classic nuclear clans as well as blended families, cross-generational teams (think grandparents and kids) or even engaged couples with their soon-to-be in-laws.

The ninth season of "Race" will return to the usual two-person team format.

The series' sixth season wrapped Tuesday night and the seventh installment, featuring Survivor veterans Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich, premieres March 1 and runs 9-11 p.m.

    Aviator Trio Developing Drunken Angel
    Source: ComingSoon!

The Hollywood Reporter says The Aviator team of Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and screenwriter John Logan are in early talks to develop a remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1948 classic Drunken Angel for Warner Bros. Pictures.

DiCaprio is attached to star in the film, which Logan would write. The project is being discussed as a potential directing vehicle for Scorsese. Kurosawa's film, which was set in postwar Japan, centered on a young criminal who is being treated for tuberculosis by an alcoholic doctor.

Scorsese and DiCaprio next collaborate on The Departed, which is about to begin filming. The film is based on the Hong Kong gangster film Infernal Affairs.

After that, Scorsese will next direct a big-screen adaptation of Japanese author Shusaku Endo's book Silence.

The Passion Recut Coming to Theaters
    Source: ComingSoon!

Mel Gibson has made a new cut of The Passion of The Christ, trimming five to six minutes of violent scenes, reports Variety. The new version, The Passion Recut, will go out on 500-750 screens by Newmarket Films beginning March 11.

The new cut will be unrated, adds the trade. Gibson showed a preliminary version of this version to the ratings board. When it became clear he would still receive an R rating, which his original film bore, Gibson decided that would defeat his purpose.

While the original film grossed $370.2 million on an initial theatrical run that began Ash Wednesday last year, Gibson cut a less-violent version of his film in response to an audience segment that skipped the film because of the depiction of onscreen carnage as Jesus Christ was tortured by Roman troops prior to being crucified.

"There are no new scenes, and the cuts are limited to the more violent aspects of the film, if that's the right term," said Bruce Davey, Gibson's partner in Icon Productions. "The scourging scene in particular has been substantially adjusted."

The film will be released in most major markets across the country. It is expected to run through Easter weekend, and Davey said that this might become a perennial release.

Giamatti Joins Norton in The Illusionist
    Source: ComingSoon!

Paul Giamatti will star opposite Edward Norton in director Neil Burger's The Illusionist, reports Variety. The movie will reunite him with his Sideways producer, Michael London.

"Illusionist" is the story of a magician in turn-of-the-century Vienna who falls in love with a woman who becomes engaged to a prince. He then uses his powers to win her back and undermine the stability of the royal house of Vienna.

Burger also adapted the screenplay from Steven Millhauser's short story, "Eisenheim the Illusionist." The film is scheduled to begin production April 1 in Prague.

Giamatti will follow The Illusionist with Kieran and Michelle Mulroney's Paper Man.

Long & Elliott Join Ghost Rider Cast
    Source: SuperheroHype!
Matt Long, who stars as Jack in The WB's "Jack & Bobby," is in talks to play a younger version of the title character played by Nicolas Cage in Columbia Pictures' Ghost Rider, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie stars Cage as a former motorcycle stuntman named Johnny Blaze who agrees to let his body become host to a vengeful spirit -- becoming a bike-riding demon in the process -- to secure the safety of his true love, to be played by Eva Mendes.

Long would play a young Johnny, who makes the deal with the devil. Also starring are Wes Bentley and Sam Elliott. Mark Steven Johnson is directing and wrote the latest draft of the script. Shane Salerno wrote the original draft.
