    Default Kenny Wayne Sheppard

Anyone, anyone? I did a search...nothing came up....u guys like him or what?

I remember when he opened for VH in 1998, I had lawn seats, he walked out and I thought Hansen was opening for them! But then he started playing his gee-tar, and rawked!

He is a bit of a SRV clone, but I have his original album and the last one he just put out...I like his singer, NOAH, better than when Kenny sings...Kenny has kind of a Lenny Kravitz voice going on, but not as good.

I used to like him. I saw him about 10 years ago in a hole in the wall bar in Dallas. He was about 17 and had a great blues band. Then he got signed and totally changed his band (probably because of record company pressure). Bad move, IMO. Sounded like a SRV clone in the middle of a hard rock band. But I heard one of his new songs and it wasn't bad - more rock-n-roll, less SRV-ish.

BTW, I saw the Arc Angels last Friday night. They were great, of course, but the opening band was a riot! They're called Grady - Chris Layton's (SRV&DT, Arc Angels) side project. The best way I can describe them is hillbilly metal. Check 'em out.

I just listened to Kenny's first release the other day for the first time in a couple of years. I enjoy it, but it's very repetitive sounding. I recall hearing from a couple of friends, who saw the "3" tour at Darien Lake, NY, that they were very impressed with Kenny until they saw and heard the difference when Eddie took the stage. Eddie just blew him away. They had never seen VH before and were thoroughly impressed. Kenny is good, but I've yet to see him live and judge for myself.

He's a good player with good feel and tone but i think he lacks his own identity. I have two of his albums and in certain songs it seems like he goes "ok i want to do an SRV part here and a Jimi part here".
What do you mean i dont believe in god?
    I talk to him everyday!

I saw/met him in 1995. He and his band are cool, easy-going people. I thought his playing lacked emotion or energy.
I saw him in 1998 and his playing was much improved, lyrically speaking. I always thought that if he learned to sing, he would be a much better guitar player.
Haven't really heard from him since.

    Default Well

His stuff is pretty good. I think his newest release has allowed
more of him to come out and he is being more himself. But honestly,
I can't help but to say he sounds like Lenny Kravitz singing wise
and I don;t think that is terrible. Lenny has a good voice and
is a good singer.... Even though he seems to think he is a
    modern day Jimi Hendrix.

Saw him in 1998 with VH. Thought he/his band was pretty damn good, actually. Haven't listened to all of his new record, but "Alive" isn't bad. My wife loves that tune.

I saw KWS on this current tour (my sixth KWS show), and it rocked. Kenny seems to be evolving away from the Stevie Ray clone, he is starting to incorporate more rock to his sound. I also was surprised at how good his singing is live. His band was smokin', and he still is touring with Noah who sings all the old stuff. Man, Noah has got some serious pipes.

I'm from Dallas and used to be a "blues nazis". When he first came out he actually told Doyle Bramhall Sr. that maybe one day he could play in his band. This was before he was signed. Everyone thought he was a joke. Total SRV clone. We had a bunch of guys who bought a hat, strat and were gonna move to Austin to be the next SRV.This was made worse by the fact that double trouble played on alot of these kids records($1000 a song). That always made me sick that they would play with SRV clones for the work. I guess Jimmie gets most of the royalties. Some moved to Dallas after they killed the Austin scene. Kenny's dad is/was (not sure about now) a big wig in the Shreveport radio buisiness. got him his deal, etc.... He came into a blues club one night in Dallas and we all tried to get him to sit in. We were gonna play fast swing and see if he could really play or if he'd try to do his SRV on top of it and make a fool of himself. He declined, I guess we'll never know.Funny thing is he's rich now, I guess I should toss my musical integrity out the window and buy a mercedes.

    Default KennyWayneShepherd

I went to the Kenny Wayne Shepherd show last friday night in Toledo Ohio. Kenny is a bad mother fucker! I showed up early to get in line and a local radio station 94.5wxkr was out front doing a remote. I look over at them and kenny himself was standing on the curb talking to them. I didn't go up to him and ask for an autograph though because i would feel like a geek to do so. So i just stood there and and enjoyed him sign a few autograghs for a couple of kids, they loved it! Well needless to say i only had a few people in front of me, so i got front row center stage! How awesome. Well he came out and rocked the fuckin house!! Around the end of the show, he played about a ten to fifteen minute version of voodoo child. He dropped his guitar pick right in front of me, so guess what i now own a guitar pick that kenny wayne shepherd played voodoo child with, and that made my day!! After the show he also hung out and signed whatever ya bought at the show. What a class act! Thanks for the memories Kenny!!
